It used to be a Roman bath which is why there is a fountain. This is where the saint was tortured. The crypt is a small labyrinth turned museum.

The temple of Panagia Acheiropoietos is one of them. The church was built in the 5th century AD at the site of a large and important Roman bath. Some parts of this bath are still preserved, others are built into the temple and some are outside, as the bath occupied an area larger than the temple. In the Early Christian era, the northeastern part of the bath still functioned. 
The successive mosaics of this bath (valaneio)  have geometric themes and are visible today in the northern aisle of the temple.
