Dion, an important sacred city for the Macedonians with sanctuaries dedicated to Zeus, Demeter, Artemis, Asklepios and the Egyptian goddess Isis, is located at the foot of Mount Olympus. Visitors can admire the remains related to the ancient Macedonian civilization, as well remains related to the Romans. The first Roman colonists appear to have settled in Dion in 43 BC due to Brutus’ activities. The Roman baths of Dion were built in 200 AD. On the outside of the baths complex, there used to be shops, workshops, and the public restrooms known as 'Vespasiennes'.

In Thessaloniki there are a lot of churches that were built on roman baths. The temple of Panagia Acheiropoietos is one of them. The church was built in the 5th century AD at the site of a large and important Roman bath. Some parts of this bath are still preserved, others are built into the temple and some are outside, as the bath occupied an area larger than the temple. In the Early Christian era, the northeastern part of the bath still functioned.

The successive mosaics of this bath (valaneio) have geometric themes and are visible today in the northern aisle of the temple.
