In New York City after the Great Fire, the price of flour grew drastically per barrel. The two companies Eli Hart & Co., and S. H. Herrick & Co. were blamed for holding all the flour. The rioters went and destroy 500 barrels of flour and 1000 bushels of wheat.
This led to an inflationary boom fueled by foreign investments and two successive years of wheat crop failures. It was also one of the first demonstrations in the history of labor.
