         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Battle of Bunker Hill took place on Jun 17, 1775. </p><p>The fierce fighting showed that America should not fight in lines like the British because they would get slaughtered. They should fight more like how the natives did with guerilla tactics.  </p><p>Who won-British</p><p>Significance-American patriots proved they could hold their own against the superior British Army. It also showed that America would not reconcile with England.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Trenton</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Battle of Trenton took place on December 26, 1776. After crossing the Delaware River, General George Washington's army met up against a group of highly trained Hessian soldiers and defeated them at Trenton. The weather was awful, but it only took one hour of fighting before the Continental Army captured nearly 900 Hessian officers and soldiers and took a large supply of muskets, bayonets, swords, and cannons. Washington had the element of surprise.</p><p>Who won-America</p><p>Significance-It heavily boosted the morale of the American soldiers. They had some hope that they could win the war.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Battle of Saratoga took place on September 19, 1777.</p><p>The Americans defeated the British army which increased morale and the hope for independence. It also helped to secure the foreign support needed to win the war.</p><p>Who won-American </p><p>Significance-The Battle of Saratoga was a turning point in the Revolutionary War because it ended the British attempt to control the Hudson River Valley. It also showed the king that the Americans could hold their own against the British. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The battle of Cowpens took place on January 17, 1781. It started when Daniel Morgan took his army, the Continentals to the backwoods and led them to a brilliant victory over Banastre Tarleton's and his force of British regulars.</p><p>Who won-Americans</p><p>Significance- it slowed British efforts to invade North Carolina. Americans had had some bad luck in the South and this battle showed that they could be successful.</p>]]></description>

British troops surrendered to the Continental Army after being outnumbered during a three-week siege in which they had many losses. It led to negotiations and the signing of the Treaty of Paris.</p><p>Who won-Americans</p><p>Significance-It was the last major land battle of the American Revolution and led to peace negotiations. The British General Cornwallis surrendered. This was the start of a new nation-The United States of America.</p>]]></description>
