Being a part of the South African Communist Party, his perspectives were somewhat controversial. While in prison, Nelson Mandela wrote a book called "How to be a Good Communist", and he believed in the works on Lenin, Marx, Engels and Stalin. So he had a slight communist perspective on things. He also didn't believe in abortion, and he believed in disarming the firearm owners and same-sex marriage during his time in government. http://www.tikkun.org/tikkundaily/2013/12/06/nelson-mandela-a-jewish-perspective/

What is apartheid? It is defined as the system of segregation in the mid 1900's (specifically from 1948-1991) in South Africa. Nelson Mandela played a huge role in the halt of this system. It was started by the National Party and began to enforce unjust laws for the racial environment. http://www.history.com/topics/apartheid

- In 1994. he was elected president of South Africa. In fact, he was the first democratically elected president of South Africa. As president, Mandela was focused on tackling the challenge of uniting the country's racial groupings and a fragmented public service . One problem with the public service was that its delivery mandate was publicly in favor of the white population in South Africa.
- One of Mandela's most notable contributions was the exemplary constitution-making process, which delivered a document that is the envy of the democratic world.
