I work with 5 year old kids and what I use to motivate them is playing games and tell them that if they want to meet the Disney Princesses and Disney heros in the U.S.A. they have to speak English. They also like to work in different spaces, not only on the tabe in the classroom.

In order to motivate my students to learn english and to acquire vocabulary is through out songs, I have noticed that kids get really excited when they listen to songs specially those learners that have the musical intelligence more developed..others prefer to move rather than just singing so I give them the opportunity to dance and move because they tend to be more kinestetic. The idea is to develop in students those skills and intelligences that they have and get advantage of that. I also implement centers and they love to work and be part of these activities because these are planned for them taking into account their capabilities and knowledge. In these centers students can experience different activities and can develop each one choosing which one they want to go first, so the teacher gives the kid the freedom to choose. This strategy has been very beneficial for students because while they are learning they are also playing and enjoying this time.
