I saw students independently sounding out and writing when the teacher allowed for productive struggle. This is important because they are doing the heavy lifting.

Due to non-negotiable high teacher expectations and classroom routines and structures, with clear directions and scaffolding if needed, all students were highly engaged and on task by collaborating and holding each other accountable with independent and group work.

A strength I noticed today was high expectations for all students in small groups. This practice supported students by giving them clear directions and expectations for each small groups. To build on this we can provide more practice for all teacher with preparing for small groups to create smooth and productive groups.

Academic vocabulary used in lessons and the kids had access to it. Giving everyone a chance to learn and be involved.

When the teacher gave the opportunity for corrections, all students were able to be successful and engage in the task.

A strength I noticed today was providing students with leadership opportunities to facilitate student-led think pair share protocols. This practice was supported students by giving them buy in, keeping them highly engaged, and support students with built in scaffolds by pairing higher students with lower students. To build on this, we could implement more student led activities to promote engagement in every student.

Due to using grade level curriculum (being planned and prepared, connecting to prior knowledge, and understanding content) ALL students were fully engaged and reading HFW and the fluency poem. The impact of this is they were able to identify and make statements like “I notice a suffix” and “there is a beginning blend” and “reading with expression”!!! This deepens students knowledge and prepares them for later grades and turns them into readers.
