Chad was first colonized in 1900 by the French and didn't become an official French country until 1920.

In total nearly 40,000 people died during the Civil War.
France, the former colonial power, and Chad's northern neighbour Libya have both become involved at various times throughout the civil war. A Libyan peace deal in 2002 failed to put an end to the fighting. In 2003, conflict in the neighbouring Darfur region in Sudan leaked across the border into Chad.
This all happened because the Chad military leaders overthrew the government and killed Chad's president because after the French colonization they could maintain a stable government so the military leaders thought they could but they couldn't and then it was war.
