REFLECTION (Job Interview for an Administrative Position)

In the Job Interview for an Administrative Position scenario, the participants use polite and respectful language. I want to highlight the use of greetings and formal words like Mr., which appear during the whole conversation. These expressions show a formal and respectful tone that is correct for a job interview. The dialogue is clear, and both people speak with a good attitude and respect.

Even though the dialogue is easy to understand, I can see some grammar and spelling mistakes that make the language less formal. For example, the sentence I’m agree should be I agree, and We going to assess should be We’re going to assess. There are also small mistakes like Wellcome instead of Welcome. These errors do not change the main idea, but they make the conversation sound less natural.

By finding these mistakes, I learned that grammar, spelling, and vocabulary are very important to communicate well in English. In the future, I will try to be more careful with auxiliary verbs and spelling. I also want to learn more formal expressions to speak better in professional situations.

REFLECTION (Customer Service Interaction in a Department Store)

In this dialogue, the interaction between the customer and the salesperson is polite and clear. Both participants show respect and use expressions that are common in a shopping situation, such as greetings, requests, and thanks. The conversation follows a logical order and the customer’s goal is easy to understand. The language used is friendly and appropriate for a department store context.

However, I noticed that some expressions could be improved to make the dialogue sound more natural in English. For example, the sentence let’s me show you should be let me show you, and I thing should be I think. Also, cold color sounds unnatural; it is better to say cool color. Expressions like the brand not matter should be the brand doesn’t matter, and register the sell should be register the sale. Some phrases can also be more natural, like gift-wrapped with a card included instead of gift-wrapped included a present card, and reunions should be meetings.

Even though these small mistakes appear, the conversation is still understandable and communicates the message correctly. I learned that small grammar details and vocabulary choices can make a big difference in sounding natural and professional. In future dialogues, I will focus on improving sentence order, using correct verb forms, and choosing words that are common in everyday English. This will help me express myself more confidently in customer service situations.

Reflection – Visa Interview Scenario

In the visa interview scenario, the language used was generally clear, polite, and well adapted to the formal context of an embassy interview. One of the main strengths was the use of appropriate greetings and formal expressions, such as “Good morning” and “Thank you,” which helped to establish a respectful tone from the beginning of the interaction. The answers were short, direct, and relevant to the questions, which is essential in this type of interview. Another strength was the correct use of grammar and sentence structures. For example, Valentina used present continuous correctly in “I’m going to visit my family” and present simple in “I study Foreign Languages,” which made her answers sound natural and accurate.

However, there are some areas for improvement. Valentina could use slightly more detailed vocabulary when explaining her reasons for the trip. For instance, instead of simply saying “to learn more about the culture,” she could mention specific cultural activities or experiences she plans to have. This would make her answers richer and more convincing. Additionally, she could prepare a few phrases to sound more confident and fluent during the interview.

Overall, the communication was effective, respectful, and grammatically correct. By adding more precise vocabulary and expanding some answers, the interaction could sound even more professional and persuasive.

Level of Formality / Register:
The overall register of the conversation remains formal, which is appropriate for a job interview context. Valentina greets politely (“Good afternoon. Thank you so much for receive me… I mean, for having me”) and maintains a respectful tone throughout the interaction. Despite some nervous hesitations and self-corrections, she does not use slang or informal expressions. The interviewer also uses polite and professional language, creating a welcoming environment. The slight hesitation and informal phrasing at times (e.g., “I like teaching very much because I think is a way to change the world”) reflect a natural nervousness rather than a lack of formality.

Vocabulary Appropriateness:
Most of the vocabulary used is suitable for a professional interview. Valentina employs educational terms such as “inclusive classrooms,” “playful activities,” “methodologies,” and “pedagogical practices,” which demonstrate her familiarity with the teaching field. She also uses personal expressions to convey motivation and values. However, there are a few inaccuracies and literal translations, such as “grow like a teacher” instead of “grow as a teacher,” and “thank you so much for receive me” instead of “for having me.” These errors are typical of non-native speakers under pressure and provide opportunities for improvement.

Grammar Accuracy:
Several grammatical errors appear in the conversation, many of which are common in spontaneous speech. For example, “I think is a way…” lacks the subject “it”; “I have work with…” should be “I have worked with”; and “I have hear a lot…” should be “I have heard a lot.” There are also a few instances of tense inconsistency (e.g., mixing present and present perfect). While these errors do not prevent understanding, they affect the overall accuracy of the language.

Pragmatic Use of Language:
Pragmatically, the conversation is very effective. Valentina expresses gratitude, motivation, and respect throughout the interview. She responds appropriately to the interviewer’s questions, gives personal examples, and acknowledges her nervousness in a way that humanizes the interaction. She uses turn-taking naturally and demonstrates reflective thinking (“Sometimes I make mistakes, but I always reflect after the class to improve”), which aligns with cultural expectations in teacher interviews. The occasional pauses and self-corrections are realistic and do not negatively impact the communication.

Reflection – Job Interview Scenario.

In this job interview scenario, the language used reflects both a formal context and the natural nervousness of a real interview situation. One of the main strengths is the maintenance of a respectful and professional tone throughout the conversation. Valentina greets politely and expresses gratitude, which helps to establish a positive atmosphere. She uses relevant vocabulary related to education, such as “inclusive classrooms,” “playful activities,” “methodologies,” and “pedagogical practices,” showing that she is familiar with the professional language of teaching. Another strength is her ability to provide personal and reflective answers, for example when she mentions feeling nervous but becoming comfortable with her students. This gives authenticity and shows self-awareness.

However, there are several grammatical and lexical errors that affect the overall accuracy of the language. Examples include “Thank you so much for receive me” instead of “for having me,” “I think is a way” instead of “I think it is a way,” and “I have work with” instead of “I have worked with.” These are common mistakes in spontaneous speech, especially under pressure. There are also literal translations, such as “grow like a teacher,” that could be improved to sound more natural.

To enhance her performance, Valentina could practice typical interview phrases in advance to increase fluency and confidence. Reviewing participle forms, conditional structures, and filler phrases could help her speak more accurately under pressure. Despite the errors, the conversation effectively communicates her motivation, respect, and teaching philosophy, making it overall a strong and realistic interaction.

In the loan application interview, the client's answers were clearly articulated, as was the advisor's well-structured questions. The correct use of verb tenses and appropriate vocabulary for a financial context were also evident.

However, some phrases could be improved by using connectives or more fluid expressions, such as "On the other hand" or "In that case." "I wish" could also be replaced with "I would like" at certain points to sound more natural without losing formality.

Overall, the dialogue reflects a credible, everyday situation and demonstrates an understanding of formal linguistic register, which is essential when dealing with institutional procedures. Communication was effective, respectful, and achieved the main objective: requesting clear information about a loan.

The dialogue during the medical appointment demonstrates a clear, respectful, and close interaction, with language appropriate for a professional context. The doctor used polite expressions, formal vocabulary, and an empathetic tone. This demonstrates that effective communication depends not only on the words themselves, but also on the tone and intention with which they are expressed.

Positive aspects include the clarity and coherence of the responses, as well as the structure of the dialogue, which flows naturally. The correct use of verb tenses and proper command of formal register are also evident.

As an area for improvement, connectives could be included to give more cohesion to the discourse, for example: "However," "Furthermore," or "On the other hand." Similarly, some of the patient's responses could be a little more detailed to demonstrate more expressive language.

Reflection: Scenario 2 – Medical Interview

Communication is evident, clear, respectful, and appropriate to the medical context. One of the main strengths of the language used is the doctor's professional and empathetic tone. From the initial greeting, courtesy and closeness are evident: expressions such as "Good morning, miss. Please come in and sit down" established an atmosphere of trust and respect. Furthermore, medical vocabulary is used precisely and simply, allowing the patient to easily understand the instructions. The structure of the dialogue follows a logical sequence: greeting, reason for consultation, examination, and closing, which facilitates effective communication.

Regarding the patient, her language is natural and collaborative; she responds clearly and shows a willingness to follow medical instructions. The conversation flows coherently and maintains a level of formality appropriate for the situation.

Overall, the dialogue demonstrates an appropriate use of professional and human language, essential in medical care. Small adjustments to the vocabulary and expression range could make it even more fluid and empathetic, thus strengthening communication between doctor and patient.

SPECIFIC EXAMPLES AND SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF

SCENARIO 1: UNIVERSITY ADMISSION INTERVIEW.

This dialogue is already very clear and natural, but a few minor grammatical and phrasing

corrections can make it sound even more fluent and professional.

Example 1. It is suggested to consider the use of the Simple Present Interrogative in the following form.

Original: Are you interested in studying with us?

Correction: Are you interested in studying here with us?

Explanation: Adding "here" makes the question sound more natural in spoken English.

Example 2. It is suggested to use the gerund and also the infinitive in the following form:

Original: I am very interested in a career in Education, especially in being an English teacher.

Correction: I am very interested in pursuing a career in Education, especially in being an English teacher.

Explanation: "Interested in + -ing" is correct, but "pursuing a career" is more academic and formal.

"Becoming" fits better after "interested in."

It's also important to remember to replace "being" with "becoming" when referring to professions.

Example: "I'm interested in being a nurse."

Example 3. It's important to maintain clarity and grammatical accuracy, so it's suggested to work in the following way.

Original: Very motivating. At school, we're looking for exactly that profile...

Correction: That's very motivating. At our school, we're looking for exactly that kind of profile...

Explanation: "Very motivating" sounds like an adjective fragment. Adding "That's" creates a complete sentence.

"Precisely that profile" is understandable, but "exactly that kind of profile" is more idiomatic.

Example 4. Keep in mind the present perfect tense so that it's used as follows:

Explanation of scholarships

Original: You can apply for them once you're admitted.

Correction: You can apply for them once you're admitted.

Explanation: The present perfect ("they have been admitted") connects the past action with the present moment. It sounds more refined and precise. It's also suggested to keep in mind that comparing the simple present and the present perfect in timelines.

Example: "After submitting your documents, you will receive an email."

The dialogue between Dr. Morales and applicant Yeini Pérez demonstrates appropriate use of formal and courteous language, appropriate for an admissions interview. Among the main strengths is the use of polite expressions such as "Good morning," "Thank you very much," and "Glad to meet you," which contribute to creating a respectful and professional environment. Furthermore, Yeini's responses reflect clarity and coherence in expressing her motivations and interests, demonstrating a command of academic register and good organization of ideas. The vocabulary used—terms such as "teaching vocation," "social commitment," and "supervised internship"—is relevant and demonstrates an understanding of the educational context.

However, there are some areas for improvement that could make communication more precise and natural. For example, Dr. Morales addresses the applicant as "Yeini" at the end, which breaks the coherence of the dialogue and can lead to confusion. Likewise, certain expressions could be rephrased to sound more natural in English, such as replacing "being an English teacher" with "becoming an English teacher" or using more varied connectives to streamline the discourse. The use of titles and greetings could also be reviewed, avoiding unnecessary repetitions of "doctor" or "doctor" in consecutive interventions.

Overall, the language used in this scenario effectively achieves its communicative purpose. With minor adjustments to vocabulary precision, consistency, and the use of polite expressions, the interaction could achieve a more fluid, professional, and authentic level of communication, appropriate for a real-life academic context.
