Napoleon had plans for this land that were soon crushed due to the Haitian slaves rebellion. So Jefferson stepped in and bought the Louisiana territory, they had all of the West to explore. Jefferson chose Lewis to lead the exploration and he brought along Clark along with many other men. Then, they started their expedition on the Missouri river by boat hoping to sail all the way to the pacific. Along the journey they documented many new animals and plants.
