Author Yann Matel

Brief Summary: The story involves the 227 days that its teenage hero spends drifting across the Pacific in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger. It focuses on the sea journey, during which the human demonstrates that he can think with great ingenuity and the tiger shows that it can learn.

I like this book and would like to recommend it because: its is anintense, emotional story of survival and triumph against the odds, with themes of faith, friendship, and perseverance. It also made me grateful for God's guidance and reminded me that I never walk alone. Although a long book it is suspenseful and takes you along the mental dilemma of the protagonist which is sincere and realistic.

1. Authors: Mikael Krogerus
                      Roman Tschappeler
2. Brief Summary: This book includes 193 pages, consisting of 44 individual ways to improve your communication with others, from your professional life to your personal life.

3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because: it can help guide you to improve your communication skills with friends, family members, and even strangers. For example, under the topic ‘Job and Career’, you will be able to learn how and what to talk to your boss appropriately, without upsetting them. In the topic ‘Self and Knowledge’, you will be able to learn how to make small talk with a stranger, and most probably even make a new friend. Furthermore, under the topic ‘Love and Friendship’, it even gives solutions on what a parents should say to their children. Hence, this book can help with what you say, how you say it, and when you say it, in every possible scenario.

To Kill a Mockingbird
1. Author Harper Lee
2. Brief Summary The story is set in the town of Maycomb, Alabama in the mid 1930s. Tom Robinson who is one of the residents of this town was accused of raping a white woman with the name of Mayella Ewell. However, he did not commit this crime and was accused of it purely due to the fact that he is black. In this story, Tom must prove his innocence while at the same time face angry mobs and corruption in court.
3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because: the reader will experience a whole rollercoaster ride of emotions and how hard it is to prove Tom’s innocence despite being against the odds. We will also be seeing how the era was because this story is actually inspired by true events and is loosely based on the authors of her family, her neighbors and an event that occurred near her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, in 1936, when she was ten.

Title: A Monster Calls
1. Author: Patrick Ness
2. Brief summary: The story tells about a 13-year-old boy named Connor and the story only focuses on his perspective from his own room. The story describes the view he sees daily from his room, a church tower up on the small hill with train tracks surrounding it. The reason he woke up at 12.07AM was because he had a nightmare but when he sat at the foot of his bed, someone was calling his name amidst of the darkness. Later throughout the story, it shows how this nightmare of him affected him emotionally. Conner then spends time in the wilderness sharing his thoughts and stories to someone or something slowly revealing more about himself - is he really safe talking to this 'thing' ?
3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because it creates a powerful impact on readers as to how their subconscious can affect an individual's mind. The story also shows how a person's deepest darkest secret can be the most dangerous thing to everyone around them and how it can 'kill' someone on the inside. How someone can do anything just to retrieve the truth within a person. Also maybe by having trust and hope in the wild, letting your thoughts run free but always beware to whom - or what - you share it with.

Aspen Wong
1)Author :Shannon Messenger

2)Summary :A teenage girl named Sophie who thought she was nuts ever since she injured her head when she was five. She started hearing people's thoughts and even obtained a photographic memory and was excelling in her human school. Unfortunately Sophie was often bullied in school, people calls her a nerd . However during a school field trip she met a boy, Fitz, that changed her life completely . Fitz filled Sophie in with who she actually was so on and forth. Unexpectedly, Sophie does not belong to the human world as she is an elf and hearing people's thoughts was one of the ability she have achieved .Of course getting Sophie convinced was not easy.Fitz risked using a teleportic stone to show her the elf's world. Not long after, Sophie had to transfer to an elf school called Foxfire. More adventure and unsolvable mysteries awaits.

3)I strongly recommend this book as it teaches you the importance of teamwork, friendship, determination, resilience and sacrifice. Including the fact that you could be backstab anytime. All of these life lessons into a fantasy book, totally worth it. When Sophie knows that she have to leave her human family she made the bravest choice ever. That is to allow the Elf Washers to completely obliterate her family memories of her and continue living in the elf world with her new life alone. In many occasions, Sophie felt like giving up, especially the first few weeks of school when she could not catch up with her work and tracking down the Neverseen (aka. Bad guys) and defeating them for justice. However she persevered together with her group of friends and manage to, at least uncover some mysteries of the Neverseen. This book also teaches you why you should not trust anyone easily. As Keefe a friend of Sophie, have experienced this better then anyone. His mother, is one of the Neverseen members and even took Keefe as her experimental subject in progress of creating the most powerful elf. Hence this book is a great book.

Thea Ysabel Castillo Matias

Title: Heartless

1. Author Marissa Meyer

2. Brief summary: Heartless serves as an introduction to the Queen of Hearts and why she is so “heartless” in the story/movie “Alice in wonderland”. The queen of hearts formerly known as Catherine, a talented baker, catches the King’s attention but wants nothing to do with him as she has fallen in love with his joker, Jest. As the story progresses, in desperate attempt to run away together, Jest is arrested for “kidnapping” Catherine by the King but fortunately was able to escape. At the party to celebrate Catherine’s engagement to the King he tells Catherine of his plan that will allow the both of them to be together. However, Peter Peter, a prominent man in town, reveals that he has transformed his wife into the Jabberwock and is responsible for all the attacks throughout the Kingdom. He captures Catherine’s maid and Catherine and Jest go save her. As Catherine slays the Jabberwock, Peter’s wife, Peter kills Jest in revenge. Overcome with grief, Catherine returns home and goes ahead with her marriage with the King to get revenge against Peter. She distances herself from her friends and family and arranged for Peter’s beheading, leading her down the road to whom she will eventually become, the heartless Queen of hearts in Alice in wonderland.

3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because: you get to understand Catherine better throughout this journey with her and how she was just an innocent baker to now a bloodthirsty and heartless Queen. It made me realize that most villains are not necessarily bad people from birth therefore teaches me not to judge people so easily without knowing what they could have possibly gone through to make them who they are today. As a person who enjoys angst-filled, romance and mystery books. I believe that this book certainly ticks all the right boxes.

Title: A Thousand Splendid Suns

1. Author: Khaled Hosseini

2. Brief summary: This book is about a fifteen-year-old girl named Mariam. She was sent to Kabul after her mother committed suicide for an arranged marriage with an older and misogynistic man named Rasheed. The story then narrates her adjsuting to the new atmosphere in Kabul, as well as mutliple episodes of misogyny. Decades later, during the Taliban takeover, life becomes hard; there are struggles against starvation and brutality; and fear. She grows a friendship with a local teenager named Laila, and forms a mother-daughter relationship. Together, they take care of their own children and finally realise their worth by doing something one would never expect.

3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because the story shows how far love could twist someone, and how love causes people to act indifferently and lead them to overcome one's biggest life obstacles as well as stand up for woman's rights. The story also displayed a powerful image of female suffering and endurance under the Taliban, an event that is rarely discussed. I liked this book because it allowed me to realise how much privilege I have because of the idea that some girls have it harder than I do. That vague idea baffled me and it changed the way that I look at the world, as well as the way I look at myself in the mirror. Having said that, if everyone were to have read this book, I think that this could get the ball rolling in terms of breaking the vicious cycle of misogyny.

Title: The Nightingale

1. Author Kristin Hannah
2. Brief Summary: The Nightingale, is about two sisters struggling to survive during World War II in France. One sister is rebellious and intent on fighting for France while the other simply wants to survive the war with her family intact. Both sisters learn who they are and what they are capable of as the war wages on.
3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because it taught me about the sacrifices of love. Despite each of their own obstacles, which includes survival and , almost all the characters sacrificed something they loved and cherished for another. It really reminded me of the sacrifices my family makes for me and that I really should not disregard the things they do just for me. The story also highlighted the importance of independence and beliefs. Kristin Hannah showed how the nightingale strongly fought for her beliefs of rights alone. I have learnt from the nightingale to never rest on what you believe is right. And to refrain from relying too much on somebody else.

Title: No Longer Human
1. Author: Osamu Dazai
2. Brief Summary: This is an autobiography of a Japanese author in the 1948 from when he was young till his mid twenties, where he promptly committed suicide in the end. The novel is known to be his "will". This autobiography depicts several themes in the authors life, mainly suicide, social alienation and depression. It focuses on how he does not feel human and how he was excluded from society, thus the title of the book is called "No Longer Human".
3. I like this book and would like to recommend it because: I find that it is very interesting to read Dazai's point of view on his life, especially when he writes about how he does not feel included in society. It also opens my mind to see someone else's views on life and allow me to be able to understand how people have different views of their own lives. In the story, Dazai also writes about how he neglects his university studies and was influenced by a friend, resorting to bad habits such as drinking and smoking, which represents modern day peer pressure. Although I find that this book is not suitable for young people similar to my age, I find that this book is a good read and has led me to learn more about cherishing my life and my school days while it lasts.

Title: Spellslinger (Book series)
Author: Sebastien De Castell
Brief summary:
The series is about a boy named Kellen Argos, a Jan'Tep initiate, (a failed mage), together with his Argosi mentor, Ferius Parfax, and his business partner, Reichis, a squirrel cat. The series shows the difficulties, challenges and memories the three of them have made after Kellen had failed to proof his worth as a mage when he turned 16. He has little power, but many tricks in mind that helped him survive after he had escaped from his parents' grasp, as they were trying to remove his powers permanently. So when Kellen meets up with Ferius Parfax, he is drawn to her as she is an Argosi with many admirable tricks up her sleeves as well. Together, they travelled to find a cure for Kellen as he had been cursed by a mysterious illness, Shadow Black. Throughout the series, each book brings about a new adventure ,new characters and a new quest that Kellen would want to achieve. The book showcases a lot of Kellen's and Ferius, as well as Reichis' tricks, how they are able to come up with different ones to adjust to life-risking situations. Every page would be able to make the readers feel a lot of tension and be amazed by how the author chooses to reveal the characters' tricks. It is a breathtaking book filled with fantasy, action and a bit of romance.
I love the book because it portrays many of the admirable traits that the characters have, and it shows the readers some painful betrayals and lessons that are worth learning from. It also shows us the sweet and bitter times that Kellen had to experience, but even when he "fell" countless of times, he was able to stand up and come back even stronger. It was very heartwarming to see Kellen, Reichis and Ferius' growths in characteristics, be it physically stronger or mentally smarter. The character development was also very well displayed throughout the series. The moment I will never forget would be the last book, where Kellen has truly found his happiness, where he belonged even though he was an outcast.

Eleanor appears, wearing a necklace similar to Sarah's. She presses a button on it, and transforms into Sarah Pre-Surgery, before running off. Sarah is left alone to become nothing.

Why I like and recommend this story: This story gave me the chills and this book contains 3 stories (only reviewed one) The more I read the story, the more the story gets unusual( in a good way) . I believe that this story will give other people the same reaction and feeling

Title:Book Of Henry
1)Author:Greg Hurwitz
2)Brief summary: The main character Henry,is an incredibly responsible boy who takes care of his family all by himself despite his own hardships. His mother is not able to take care of Henry and his younger brother as she is too busy working, therefore Henry was forced to mature at a young age. He ensures that their bills are paid and that his family is safe. a few days later he notices his neighbor Christina coming out of her house with bruises and he believed that she was being abused by her stepfather and local police commissioner Glenn. He reports it to the authorities but Glenn uses his connections and he vehemently denies it. Afterwards Henry works hard and he makes a plan to rescue Christina and notes it down in a book but all of a sudden he experiences horrible headaches and violent seizures. He's brought to the hospital and he's diagnosed with a brain tumor and he undergoes surgery. Henry soon felt like he was going to die and he instructed his younger brother to hand the notebook to his mother and he passed away a few days later in her arms. His mother is distraught but quickly collects herself in order to complete her son's mission. She sets outs and attempts to rescue Christina using Henrys way which was to murder Glenn during Christina's dance recital at a school talent show with a sniper gun. After holding the gun she remembers that Henry and realises that although this plan was ingenious it was a construct of a child. She confronts Glenn like an adult and he
replies that everyone will believe him, not her, and he tells her that he is going to call his police chief to come and bring her in. At the same time, affected by Christina's dance performance at the talent show, the school principal decides to follow through on the abuse accusation and contacts the authorities. Glenn returns home, calls his relative at Social Services, and learns that an investigation is being opened into his abuse of Christina. As the police arrive at his house, Glenn kills himself. Henrys mother legally adopts Christina as her daughter and she decides to write a book as her son always tells her to.
3)Why
I like the book: The plot of the book was very good and the character development from the the mother after Henry died was excellent.

Quyen.

Title: Fight Back

Author: Brent R. Sherrard

Brief Summary: This book is about a boy named Tyler. Tyler has had a tough life. When he was eleven, his mother left with his sister for a drive and never came back. Tyler was left with an angry drunk father who took his anger out on the only person left, which is Tyler. Due to that, Tyler has been going through major hormonal swings, leading to anger issues. From there, Tyler was then taken in and subsequently kicked out by his grandmother. After facing many difficult situations and encounters with his teachers, schoolmates and police officers, Tyler was handed over to his new stepdad, Conley, who is able to give him something he’s never had before - a safe and loving home. While Tyler was in the process of building a healthy relationship with his new family members, he developed an interest for boxing, all thanks to Conley. Conley then became someone that Tyler looks up to.

I like this book and would recommend it because : This book is very motivational as Tyler learns how to start boxing with the help of his stepfather. The sense of gratefulness towards Tyler's stepfather, Conley, is being portrayed which gives the readers a warm feeling. It also shows the journey of how a teenager boy that’s dealing with anger issues and family problems, turn into a better person.
