Here are some facts about World War ll. There were about 12,000 jews every single getting killed at the concentration camps. America was involved in World War ll from 1941 to 1945. World War ll actually started when german soldiers attacked Poland on September,1 1939.And 405,399 U.S soldiers died in World War ll.If the U.S did not win World War ll the United States would be controlled by the germans and germany would have invaded and taken over the U.S.The WWll memorial has 4,048 gold stars each gold star stands for 100 American soldiers that died in WWll the memorial has water and water fountains in the middle of the memorial and it is lit up day and night. All the states that fought in the war have their own stone to thank them. On the wall of the memorial it says, “the heroism of our own troops ...was matched by that of the armed forces of the nations that fought by our side...they absorbed the blows...and they shared to the full in the ultimate destruction of enemy. “ That quote was said by the President Harry S Truman.

The Vietnam Veterans memorial is a huge part of America’s history (besides world war I and II). The Vietnam Veterans memorial was built (was finished)in March 26, 1982. From research, I have found that the sight was built from non-government funds. The reason why the Vietnam veterans memorial was built was because it was supposed to show respect and honor to(American) Vietnam veterans, living or dead. The Vietnam war started on November 1, 1955,

And ended April 30, 1975. The design of the wall was made by Maya Lin, age 21 (at the time since she is 58 years old now). There are at least 58,272 names are on the wall, the wall is made of black granite, and has a quiet atmosphere, most likely to show more respect to people related or those who knew a veteran that died in the war (or even past away of natural cause).

People who go there have almost a spiritual connection with the past. If you visit, please do not make a lot of noise or maybe look at people crying out of respect.

The arlington national cemetery was started in 1864 when a 21 year old private William Christman was buried. The reason why the landmark started is because George Washington Custis Lee acquired the land in 1802 and begin the construction of the arlington house. Three Interesting facts about the arlington national cemetery are that there are 400,000 graves in the cemetery, and a soldier was identified 14 years after he was buried in the tomb of the unknown, and 3,000,000, people visit the cemetery each year. The people that are eligible to be buried in the in the cemetery are people who have served in the army, navy, air force, marine corps, and coast guard.

The Washington Monument was built in 1884. The Washington Monument was built to honor the first President of the United States of America George Washington. George Washington was much more than just president. He was a general in The Revolutionary War and A founding father. George Washington may not have been that book smart ,but he was incredibly athletic. Recently, there has been work done to the Washington Monument. Since the Washington Monument was built in 1884 the materials have worn down over 174 years. Some interesting facts about the Washington Monument are the Washington Monument is 555 feet tall, No building in Washington D.C. can be taller than the Washington Monument, and once you reach the top of the Washington Monument you can see over 30 miles. Unfortunately, the Washington Monument is closed until 2019 due to the elevator getting stuck which caused repairs to be done.

The World War 2 Memorial was built in April 29, 2004. Some reasons why it was built because it honors the millions in the armed forces of the time of World War 2. Many countries were involved with the war so, some countries took sides with their Allies. World War 2 began when German soldiers invaded Poland in Sept. 1, 1939. World War 2 was like two different sides because there was a war with Germany and Hitler then another war with Japan and America. It shows the name of states to honor the men that died. At night they put on lights by the water fountains. It is their to respect the men in the war. It shows different states and countries too. There was 4.4 million people in the World War 2.

The Korean Memorial was built to represent the sacrifices of the 135,000 people who served in the U.S. army during the Korean War. The Korean War Memorial was built near the Lincoln Memorial. The Korean Memorial took nine years to be built. Cooper-Lecky partnership is who built the Korean War Memorial. 33,652 people died in the Korean war and more deaths from illness, accidents and other causes non battle that totals up to be 33,914 people died during the Korean War. The statues represent the foot soldiers, depicts, Army, Navy, Marine corps, Air force and their equipment. The Korean War started on June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953. There’s no actual winner of the Korean War instead Korean returned to the “the things were before the war”, the korean war has actually never has ended. Today North Korea is a dictatorship and South Korea is a democracy. There is a part of north and south Korea called the DMZ it has soldiers that stare at each other from the north Korea and south korea the soldiers in the south Korea army all have black belts in Taekwondo. There are American soldiers that are at south Korea to help protect them from north Korea.
