What does differentiated reading instruction mean to you?
DRI means that you are teaching students how to read and you  meet them at their level. You, as a teacher, need to be flexible in all different aspects in order to meet each students needs. The needs of the students can be met individually or as a group. 
2. What were 3 things you already knew? 
  • Monitor the students growth and keep going until you find the right system for them. 
  • If a student needs individualized instruction, do the least invasive first.
  • have the mindset that each students needs vary.
3.What were 3 surprises?
 * One surprise was that Dr. Tomlinson agreed that students should be able to function in areas of interest to them. 
* Dr. Tomlinson also agreed that there are things the students can learn on a computer that they cannot in a book. 
*Dr. Spear-Swerling states that " if accommodations are not coupled with good and aggressive remediation, you can accommodate the child right out of learning how to read."
4. What were 3 take-aways?
* In an under-resourced school, the most  important resource is you, the teacher!
* Do not just plug a student into a computer and let it take the role of the teacher.
* at risk students and second language students need balance of skills instruction and holistic reading and writing opportunities. 
5. What are 3 concepts you want to know more about?
* The no child left behind grant and how that affects differentiated instruction. 
* how to handle reading to special ed students in the mainstream classroom.
* differentiating instruction for English language learners
