“Understand the concept of STEM by creating a rocket”

• Read and participate in the discuss pertaining to the Book “Counting on” and further establish comprehension by completing rocket experiment and completing assessment.

• Conduct experiment that generates and compares multiple possible solutions and be able to record and share experiment findings while incorporating factors of STEM within their process

  
  

3-5-ETS1-1. Define a simple design problem, reflecting a need or want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.

3-5-ETS1-2. Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.

3-5-ETS1-3. Plan and carry fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model that can be improved.

• Math- Measuring and comparing the distance the rockets goes

• Designing- what do we need to do to our rockets that will give us the best results

• Science- Is there any chemical engineering that can be involved/incorporated

• Research- what are some resources that we can use to research information

  
  

• After the reading of the book to cover the historial, and STEM aspects of the book. With about 10 questions Multiple choice with a short response

Project

• Work with in a group of 3-4 people and create your own rocket

• Do research on way that a rockets takes flight

• What can your rocket take from what your researched

• Create your rocket using materials that you either bring from home or from the craft sections

• Once completed we are going to test either far or high that our rockets can go. Be sure to record your outcome after every test. You show test at least 5 times.

• Then find ways that we can improve our rockets and test it again, be sure that we record our results.

• Then present your rocket and information to the class and demonstrate it
