This all started in 1922 when Hitler and Stalin all started gather people out of their homes, either sending them to concentration camp, killing them or sending them to working camps. Also Stalin sent some of the people to Siberia to either kill or work and starve people to death.

I gave this book 4 stars. The reason why I gave this book four stars is because this is an easy book to read, but it was not a easy flow. The reason I say this, is because I minute i kind of felt like the it was starting off as a regular life and then they get captured next they get taken to working camps, also they just kind of jumping around.Overall I would recommend this book to someone else.

This is Lillia and I loved reading your book! One of my favorite things about your book is that how much faith Luka had to put in other people in order to survive. I liked how close the friendship of Luka and Martina was. I was wondering if Luka was going to live at the ending , but somehow he always gets through the toughest things. I think One thing I did not know about War World2 is not just jews were put into labor camps, concentration camps, but also Ukrainians and also many more.Luka was such great help to all the doctors when people had gotten hurt badly. When he first went into The Red Cross underground "hospital" I thought they were going to hold him captive, but actually they saved his life from frost bite and his best friend Martina's life. I think you did such a great job on your story and I hope many others have love it too! Write back!

The Hospital

One day when Luka was in the Labor camp someone accidentally dropped a bomb and blew the place up. When he woke up he was in a hospital gown when a few stitches on his body and a big gash on his thigh that has been treated.He told his best friend Lida that he was going to go he was not going to live if he stayed any longer and she agreed. He ran away from the hospital when they all got loaded up into the back of the Soviet truck.

When Luka had been traveling for 2 days in the woods his wounds had gotten worse and he had stepped on a shard of glass and sliced his heal open. He had put dry mud over it to stop the bleeding. He did not have a chance to survive if he did not get food soon. When he was walking he saw this house and a barn. It looked like no one was home. He went into the barn, and there was a cow and a horse, he thought about what his dad/tato had said about how cow milk could clean his wound and give him something to drink. He decided to wait the night out just in case anyone came.

The Theme of The War Below

The author believes that your life can change in a blink of an eye. One day you could go to living your life, to fighting for it.

I said this quote, because this is when the nvkes sent and smoke bomb through the church and many people died. After this they had to take this man who had gotten shot on a stretcher, and took everyone to safety they walked 12 miles with all of the people, Luka in the back with the man on the stretcher, and Ivan who was helping him, also 2 strong men who stayed alive and who were left in that village.They saw the nvke planes again flying over them but this time getting really close. The front of the defense was Martina and the 2 other shooters.They shot twice and Martina had shot the pilot and he had gone down. The plane had crashed into the woods, and some trees went into flames only one girl got hurt and that was this girl named Lina, Then next Luka was congratulating Martina and saw how pale she was turning. She had gotten hit in the chest and fell to the ground.She had died in that moment Luka thought it was all his fault.

The author believes that perseverance is key to survival when trying to escape.

This relates to when he was on his third journey of the book. After he had gotten through escaping the camp, also the hospital then found Helmut and Margrete, now Margrete getting Luka past the guards and off into the woods to hide again.

Escaping from the Train

This is when the USA soldiers told him he would go and see his father that was still alive., but really they lied and started beating him and told him they were going to kill Luka. Also he escaped when the train was still going.

I think we can also relate to this story, because the whole time they were kind of asking themselves what happened in there life at that point. I think this quote was very important.

Luka's mom said this quote. I can relate to this, because some people can be mean wither they wear something expensive or something that is cheap.
