         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the world of consumer tech, the word <em>“</em>motherboard<em>“</em> gets thrown around a lot, especially when talking brands like Asus and Intel. <br>But <strong>what is a motherboard?</strong> And more importantly, <strong>what does it do?<br>- </strong>The main purpose of a motherboard is to move power around and provide a central place where all of your components can communicate with each othern, but not just.<br>- Another important function of the motherboard is to load your operating system. A firmware chip on the board stores the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). This very lightweight application is the first thing your computer loads, which allows it to read data off of your hard drive and, eventually, load your operating system. It’s right there in the name: The BIOS is “basic.” The point is to get all of your components recognizing each other before loading the operating system.</div>]]></description>

Intel engineers suggested a family of just four chips, including one that could be programmed for use in a variety of products, setting in motion an engineering feat that dramatically altered the course of electronics.<br>-<br>That’s when the Intel® 4004 became the first general-purpose programmable processor on the market—a "building block" that engineers could purchase and then customize with software to perform different functions in a wide variety of electronic devices.</div>]]></description>
