Kirsebergsskolan

Kirseberg School is a F-5 school with about 520 students. Here we start from a broadened concept of text such as the auditory, kinesthetic, visual and multimodal where all languages are seen as equally important. We see that by using several senses and languages instead of just oral and written, children have more tools to express their thoughts and opinions. This is to become visible and make imprints, to have a chance to both meet themselves and others in more ways and to make standpoints that both provide insights about themselves and others broadening the language, their own identity and understanding of the outside world.

https://kirseberg.skola.malmo.se/

In this project are we interested in the methods of art based using an exploratory approach where the final goal is not determined from the beginning and thus gives the students the opportunity to be co-creators in the process and to think of something new. We see this as important skills in a future that will require new creative ways of thinking to solve increasingly complex problems. This is a challenging approach for school activities that work towards already established goals. Can these processes follow each other? To investigate this, we have chosen that the artists should primarily work with the teachers to give them tools in how to run such a process. In this way, we hope that both teachers and students will have the opportunity to participate in a process that opens up new ideas and methods regarding art and education and how these inputs can feed each other in the long term.

1. Our first meeting with the artists Karin and Cecilia ask us to think about:

What can art be?

And what is water?

The artist give us the possibility to think from other perspectives than the humans. For example water. And then ask our selves: Whose planet is this? Is the human the most important?

2. The second meeting we talk about: What can art be in school? Teachers work against the goal of the curriculum, but what happens if an art perspectiv comes in the middle of the process?

3. What is water? We try to catch water, has our sight of water changed? We try it on our students.
How does the students think about water now?

4. What is food? What is food for us? What food is important for us in our history?

5. What does the students think about food? What food is important for them in their history?

6. The students write down their thoughts about their food. When do they eat it? Where do they eat it? What feeling do they have when they eat it? The also write down the recipe of the food the have chosen with help from their parents. They create their food in different materials. We look at their creations together and ask our selves, do we think sometthing new about our food now?

7. The artist have a workshop with the teachers where we talk about what a mapp is. We look at different maps from different perspectives from different artists. The teahers work with maps with the students. The students make a map of where they think that their food are from. The students and teachers talk together about the perspective of our environment around food and water. We decide to try not to throw food for a week and see what happens.

8. The student think about: What would we eat in the future?

9. The artists and teachers look at all the material and thoughts they got from the students.
