My name is Garyn Rickwood, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Vice-President of Academics!  This program encourages academic excellence, and if given the chance, I would like to continue cultivating that environment. I believe my past experience and forward-thinking vision will positively influence our collective academic community.   

     This past year, I worked as the Senior Mentor of the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Ethics, Society & Law stream (you can read more about me here: https://www.trinity.utoronto.ca/study-arts-science/trinity-one/ethics-society-law/). In this role, I mentored 25 first-year students in ES&L; specifically, I led biweekly study groups, organized alumni panels, and recruited students into the program. I also managed and maintained student mentorship responsibilities, training, and communication–also a responsibility of the VP of Academics. This position demanded consistent communication with Trinity One and ES&L faculty. I have been recently rehired for this position for the 2023-24 academic year.

     As VP of Academics, I would implement these skills, planning accessible, in-person and virtual academic opportunities. Examples of academic events I anticipate organizing include a guest lecture on Indigenous law, more ES&L high table dinners, and circle discussions on current topic(s) in our field such as the ethics of artificial intelligence in legal spheres.
