"He was not happy. He was not happy. He said the words to himself. He recognized this as the true state of affairs. He wore his happiness like a mask and the girl had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of going to knock on her door and ask for it back"(9). I chose this quote because Montag admits to himself that he is not happy. At first he was happy that because he enjoy burning houses. When he met Clarisse that all change for him as she ask him "Are you Happy." Montag was put in this state of realization that maybe he was not happy. Its too late to ask that happiness back because Clarisse pretty much took it away from him by asking him that question.

"There must be something in books, things we can't imagine, to make a women stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don't stay for nothing"(48). In this part of the text, Montag is confused to why the women would set herself on hire and burn with her books. This makes Montag feel uncomfortable with the women decision. Something in those books made the women react and thing differently or reflected on herself as an individual. The books must've had value information that meant a lot to the poor women, therefore, she decided to do that horrible decision.
