“I Poem” Rubric/Checklist

1) The writer states the subject in the opening sentence. ____

2) The writer includes facts to teach the reader about their animal that would allow

the reader to answer each question on the “Animal Research” graphic organizer

(Each “____” or “a,b,c or d” is worth 3 points. A “3” will be given when the student goes

above and beyond, a “2” when they do everything the rubric asks for, and a “1” will be

given if they have some of the requirements but not all the way throughout the poem.”

**Students will be graded on their “I Poem” that they created individually with this

checklist. The checklist includes what we had on our anchor chart for what makes a good

“I Poem”. Students will be evaluated based on if they show an understanding of what this

consists of what the poem includes which is shown above.

Now you are ready to choose your very own animal and become an expert on their life! Just like we did with our "I Poem" project, you will be researching your animal and learning all that you can about them. Use these questions to help guide you in your research:
1. What animal will you be researching?
2. What is their habitat like?
3. What type of ecosystem do they live in?
4. Discuss the geography of where you would find your animal.
5. What does your animals diet consist of?
6. Is your animal endangered?
7. What unique characteristics does your animal have?
8. How do the abiotic and biotic factors interact with each other?
