I selected this article because it talks about how school counseling itself is a good thing. To make it better though, we need to be doing research to better help everyone.

Summarize Important Concepts
The article does a study on if certain practices are effective or not. With two different analyses, they found that it was effective after doing research on each practice themselves. 

Compare experience
In my experience, I wish that when I did go to my counselor, they would have done more research and tried to help me more with the problems I was having at that point. I probably would have had a better outlook on it.

If you were to drive into any town in America, you would find a school of some sort. This is due to all students having to go to school. Whether it be at home with your parents teaching you or you going to any other school with other students, you have to go. With that though, you don’t have to go see the counselor in need of help. Or should I say it is stigmatized as a bad thing. My core belief if that all students should get the help they need from counselors no matter what. The reason why I say all of this is because if you are going to make a student go to school, we need to make sure that we are helping them every step of the way. No matter what it is, we need to make sure that they know that we are trying.

Ethical Standards
Ethically, we are there at the schools to make sure that the student is getting all the help that they need to make it through. Our job is to make sure that the students are getting help on the “academic, career and social/emotional” (ASCA, 2022) level. When we do this, students should feel that we are helping them get through high school and then help them get further into life by helping to get them into college.

School Counselor's Role as an Advocate
In my opinion, both my core belief and the ethical standard, they add up to becoming an advocate for students as a counselor. If you are making sure that you are helping all students no matter their preferences or affiliations, then you are advocating for all of the students. These students need to know that you want to be there for them, or it doesn’t work either.

Vision Statement
My vision statement is that all students are given the chance to be helped by a counselor no matter their sexual orientation, preferences, and affiliations. Making sure every student achieves their goals.
