It was definitely a half way attempt to be empowered but similarly a lot of the disempowering moments I had in K-12 came from the same model minority myth, but only this time the problem was I didn’t fit those stereotypes. This did a number on my psychologically and I don’t know that I ever figured out how to feel empowered in academia.
