Hi Idongesit! Using the Rubrics provided, I think that your reflective writings are good and are appropriate and meaningful to the study unit. Especially in your first writing, I think it would have been better to tell us how you applied the Gibbs cycle to your situation with handing over. I agree wholeheartedly with the fact that you kept a record of the patient’s HGT’s in your diary, however more thought in what would be a better action plan for next time might be needed.

I have noted that the writings posted attempt to link the underlying concepts and connect to previous learning experience, most especially the third reflective writing. In addition, I think that the writings are well written and except for some choice of terms, they explain what you’re trying to say.

I think you are on the right track. I strongly advise you to increase more references in your work so you’ll have research to back up what you are saying. Keep up the good effort! 😊

I would like to say that I liked the build up of your journals and that the journals you wrote are related to the task in hand. What I would recommend is to use more literature to back up your work.

In your second journal what i would suggest is that next time when you are giving over you can make sure that the nurse receiving the over is understanding by asking some questions related to what you are saying, this could prevent any misunderstandings in the future. In your third journal regarding the incident of the two residents is that you did good in approaching the nurse in charge but what i would have done when i saw that the NO did nothing about the situation is go and talk to both residents and get to know them better and try to find some common ground for both residents to get along.

Good overall work it is evident that you planned before writing your journals. What I would suggest is to add more pictures to your writings to make the journals more fun to read. Well Done :)

Hi Idongesit, your reflective writings show that you are able to think about your experiences. You need to move beyond the description and further analyse the situation and develop an action plan for YOU. So for example: In reflection one, there was this issue with documentation, did you see why? why was the handover not carried out? it could be another reason, other than what you are presuming. What could you do to prevent this from happening again? Keep you reflections focused. The first reflection talks about writing...so the focus needs to be on you and writing to reflect.

The reflections are easy to read and interesting because they all provide your own experiences and I can see clearly what you think about the topic, which is quite difficult to achieve when writing-keep this up. In your second reflection, you think about how you manage time. Delve deeper and develop an action plan (Gibb's reflective framework) which is focused and concrete on how you can allow time for reflection and overcome the barriers that you mentioned. You can achieve this by writing longer reflections...the writings are very short, thus you try to cram a lot of information into short paragraphs. Remember to including referencing to paragraphs that are not your own writing (example paragraph one of reflection 2).

In reflection we always try to become more self-aware. It is often very easy to identify issues beyond our control. However, these will make us feel demotivated and burnt-out. Thinking about what I can change helps me shift away from this mindset. Keep up the good work Idongesit, you are moving in the right direction :)

Hi Idongesit 😊

I think that your reflective writings are relatively good. Using the Rubrics provided I think that your writings are appropriate and meaningful to the study unit. However, I believe that you should deal with the “what can you improve? more” for example; In the reflection related to art, I believe you did the right thing by suggesting music and dance as a form of therapy to your patients and yes, I believe you. But how does reflection in art help you as a person?

For example: In your last reflective writing, you applied Schon’s model which is a good model to follow. However, Schon’s model has two phases so to speak. Reflection-in-action and reflection-on-action. Unfortunately, there was no mention of the reflection-in-action and you did not mention specifically what could you have done better to improve in your situation. How did it make you feel to have 30 patients instead of the usual 15? What could you have done to make the situation better? I think you need to focus more on you and what you learn by giving examples.

I also commend you for taking our previous advice and having more references in your work. In fact, using the rubrics provided I can see that you used good, appropriate and clear language and the referencing is noticeable. You also took Jean’s previous advice and used more pictures in your writings. In addition, I still think there was an improvement from your previous writings so well done Idongesit. 😊

As I said in our last peer- review , I enjoyed reading your journals. The build up of your journals
was good and the journals are related to the task in hand. I could also notice that what I
recommended last time you worked on it as there were a lot of references and literature backing
up what you were analyzing.

When reading the journals it was also evident that you planned before you did your writing.
What I would recommend is that you link the underlying concepts with previous learning
experiences. In the writing `reflecting on experience`, i saw that you had a problem with the
allocations and you managed to solve it by using your time better and prioritize more the work,
what i would say is maybe you can talk to your managers relating to you being exposed to job
fatigue maybe they can increase the staff numbers so the work will be divided better.

To conclude my review, I would like to tell you great job, as these writings show clearly what
you were trying to express and that you managed to grow as a professional through reflection.

Your reflections look much better, the use of images really helps make your writings increasingly interesting. Although your writings are linked to the study-unit topic, they are quite short. Thus, there are aspects of good reflective writing that are missing.

For example in the reflection about art, it is not very clear how you use art to help you reflect. Thus, try to challenge yourself to think deeper and question your own assumptions. You managed to also reflect on positive outcomes, well done. Something that works well should be further adopted in future practices. I have also noticed that you have taken up feedback from your peers, well done!
