This strategy could be used for any subject but  I have mainly used it for a grammar or vocabulary review.  I like the six word story as well as the A-E-I-O-U strategy because it requires critical thinking.  However, my favorite is the Placemat strategy because you can integrate various subjects and modify it according to your grade level.  My students love working with partners and recording facts that they have learned with Placemat.  I love the engagement AND collaboration aspect of the SOS strategies!

My students are always really excited anytime that we use them, no matter the strategy. The one that we implement the most is visual walkabout. My kiddos love having that time to learn something new within their groups and to be able to be up and moving around to the different stations. They get really excited each time they come in the room and see the new photos displayed because they know what that means! All of the strategies have been fun for me as the teacher as well. I have seen a lot of student engagement and learning taking place.
