The First President didn't have any predecessor, so he had to start everything from scratch, especially when it came to figuring how to communicate with the masses. With little to no technology available at that time, Washington utilized speeches or formal addresses like the inaugural address to communicate with the masses, which was efficient during that time period.

With the Civil war going on, Lincoln required a method of communication that was quicker and more reliable than a messenger- which was a very common form of communication which the earlier president utilized-in order to efficiently and quickly give orders to his commanders in war. This is the reason why he used the telegraph, which was at that time, the most advance form of communication, making him the first president to ever use it. He also communicated with the masses through newspaper. Putting his speeches on them, so that the people who couldn't attend it in person could still read it.

The 25th president made use of a more advance technology than newspapers, Moving images or films. With this, he had an advantage over previous presidents, when it came to campaigning or promoting his propaganda. He also became the first president to ever film his inauguration, which was another advantage, since it captured the masses attention, since this is the first time they've seen something like this. He could also broadcast it, which previous president never did since they used the basic form of communication like the newspaper.

Unlike the previous president mentioned, there wasn't any advancement in communication technology, so he used the same technology previous president used. But unlike previous presidents, he was able to connect more with the masses and was more popular with the people due to his catchy slogans and his political cartoons. This made him seem more friendly and likeable

Franklin Delano Roosevelt broadcasted fireside talks during the Great Depression and the World War II, gave the impression that he was amiable and close to the people of the United States. FDR used radio more effectively than any president before him because, in contrast to earlier presidents, he actually spoke to the people on the radio, on a personal level rather than just broadcasting speeches.

Although he wasn't the first president to appear on television, he was the first to often use the medium to share information and, in a sense, speak to the general public. He was the first president to do a formal question-and-answer session live on television with actual reporters. Since most broadcasts like this were pre-recorded for prior presidents, performing this one live with actual reporters asking him questions helped him appear more sincere and trustworthy.
