Despite being a poor country, Mozambique has one of Africa's most improving economies. It has an annual growth of 7%. It is a relatively popular country for foreign investors because of their surplus of natural resources. The investment of foreign companies is increasing, mostly in the mining industry. Mozambique's economy continues to face challenges of weaker commodity rates, lower demand among trading partners, and rising U.S. interest rates.

Mozambique is one of the most poor and underdeveloped in the world. Until it was forgiven recently, the country had a ton of foreign debt. This was partly due to a civil war that lasted from 1977 to 1992. Another contributor to Mozambique's poverty is their continuing trade imbalance. They spend more money on imports than they make on their exports. 52% of Mozambique's population lives under the poverty line. Only 17% is unemployed, but 77% of working people are employed by subsistence farming. However, they have made steps to decrease their poverty. Inflation has decreased and fiscal reforms have been made, like a value-added tax.

Mozambique is considered wealthy with natural resources. It is home to deposits of iron ore, gold, bauxite, graphite, marble, and limestone. Rare and important materials like tantalite and ilmenite, a source of titanium, are also found in Mozambique. However, aluminum is the country's most valuable export. In fact, the mining and export of aluminum brought the country's largest foreign investment.

Education in Mozambique is separated into three main levels: Primary, Secondary, and Higher education. The literacy rate is 48%, less than half of the total population. The literacy rate of women is lower than the literacy rate of men. Mozambique has a national public school system, but there are several education systems in this country that are funded and founded by the international community. Mozambique lacks sufficient schools and teachers to guarantee education for the youth.

Mozambique is run by a republic and multiparty democracy. A president is elected for a five year term and can serve a maximum of two terms. The president is head of state and government, and appoints Mozambique's prime minister and Council of Ministers. The people also elect the two hundred and fifty members of the unicameral parliament every five years. There are eleven provinces in Mozambique. The president chooses a governor to head each province. Each province is divided into districts. The final appellate court of Mozambique is the supreme court, which has jurisdiction in most serious criminal cases. Some supreme court judges are appointed by the president and others are elected by parliament.

Mozambique is a Stage 1 country. It has a Birth Rate of 41 and a Death Rate of 14, resulting in a high natural increase. Mozambique's population is projected to more than double in 2030. Mozambique is also one of the world's youngest populations, with 45% of the population under the age of 15 and only 3% over the age of 65. This means that in a few years, Mozambique's working population will be very large.

Women in Mozambique face many challenges. Although the law states that women are not to be married until they are 18, 21% of women are married before the age of 15. Most women also already have two children in between the ages of 15 and 19. Early marriage and young pregnancy are two reasons the enrollment rate of women is low. Domestic violence is considered normal in Mozambique, where it is seen that the man has the right to use force and discipline as the head of the family. Half of the reported cases of violence against women are of rape. Sexual abuse and harassment of girls by their teachers has increased alarmingly. There is no government policy to control this type of violence.
