Just passing its 70<sup>th</sup> year of managed healthcare, Costa Rica’s public and private systems are always being upgraded by having one of the best training for their staff, new hospitals, clinics, and technology. In 2000, a World Healthcare Organization Survey ranked Costa Rica 36<sup>th</sup> in the world. At the time, it was one above the United States.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The CCSS finances the healthcare of Costa Rica’s residents which contributions come from employers, workers and the state. Contributions from employees/employers and insured beneficiaries make up of 90% of the finances of the Social Security System. Each insured salary contributes 22.91% out of which the employer provides 14.16%. The worker provides a total of 8.25% and the State pays with 1.24%. </div>]]></description>

Hospitals have approximately 6,000 beds, while there are approximately 223 beds in three private clinics/hospitals. The “Caja” buys approximately 90% of the medical equipment in Costa Rica.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Challenges are restrictions for ruling health along social security, population growth with a demanding economy, and a strong epidemiological transition. In 1989, Caja services included the healthcare of undocumented immigrants which made up 8% of the population. In 2009, an estimation of 10.7 new cases of cancer were diagnosed, which is equivalent to 2.2% of the population. </div>]]></description>
