Grace:
The future for the American manufacturing industry is not bright, according to the story.
Our impression is that the manufaction indutry proberbly will be outsourced to locations with a cheaper labour, where people can be payed less for the same amount of work. As the story clarifise - that is leaving out a lot of americans making them umemployed and therefor poor.

Blue Collar worker:
5: They are outsourcing their jobs in the US to Mexico and China. The text has a very negative view on globalization. The result of outsourcing work is very bad for the people in America.

8: At some point it is truthworthy because of the authors numbers and statistics. But at the same time the articles from question three says that people are being reemployed, so maybe it is not true that the blue collar workers are an extinct race.

9: You can relate the article to Grace while, Grace are living in the Rust Belt seeing the many manufacturing facilities and businesses being shut down, and leaving a lot of people unemployed. And thoose few left who has a job, is afraid to loosing theirs. It is the blue collar workers who has lost their jobs because companies have chosen to outsource these to countries, where the wages are low.

Grace:
Many big factories have closed down and production has and will continue to move to 3rd world countries.
You are left with a feeling that nothing is going to get better for these people. There is no glimmer of hope in the text. The dreams she has are just that, and will never be reality. People have committed suicide and the effects of the manufacturing crisis will continue to affect more generations to come. They have no way of escaping this environment and if they complain they might lose what little money they earn.
"The city has had once been promising but now it was mostly abandoned, ten-story office buildings and hotels, all empty; brick and stone stained by dark soot."

Blue Collar Workers:
5. What view on globalization is expressed in the text?

The writers view is negative towards globalization because he feels it is bad for the American blue collar workers. Globalization has made it too easy for employers to outsource and therefore it has resulted in an imbalance between the workers and employers in America.

8. Do you find the text trustworthy? Why/ why not?

Michael Snyder does have knowledge on the things he comments on, however he is very biased in his statements and from reading his blog he makes it clear that he is an activist that wants to make a difference in the world. Therefore his views are not objective enough for me to believe in everything he says 100%. Also, his statements aren't exactly accurate compared to some of the statistics we were given.

9. Relate the text to "Grace".

The views of Michael Snyder corresponds very well to the views in the novel "Grace". There is a clear sympathy for the blue collar workers and their unfortunate situation. There is also a similarity in the bitter tone used in both texts.

Grace: The text does not give a good impression of the manufacturing industry. The valley she lived in once had many big factories but they are now closed down and abandoned. Seemingly, this is because much of the production can be and has been moved to 3. world countries in Asia or South America , Where people can be paid less for the same amount of work. Thus leaving out a lot of Americans without jobs.

If You Are a Blue-Collar Worker…, questions 5,
Globalization is shown to be a needed means for the companies if they want to stay competitive and successful in the market. It is totally legal for them to move their production to somewhere cheaper. The author also gives the view that the blue-collar workers should stand up against this legislation and try to get it changed.

8, We find the text somewhat trustworthy as developments does seem to be heading in his stated direction. However, it is more nuanced than that given that many efforts have and will be made to reemploy such workers elsewhere. With the constant focus on fighting unemployment someone will also try and implement strategies to combat it.

9. This text takes a more macro-view on the developments for blue-collar workers and the general effects of moving most production to 3. world countries. "Grace" is a specific example of how this development affects a person, a family, a town and a community.

	- The article is a more overviewing aspect of the problem, whereas Grace is a specific example.
	- Grace lives in The rust belt, seeing the many manufacturing facilities and businesses being shut down and leaving a lot of people unemployed and those few left, who has a job, afraid of losing theirs. It is the blue collar workers who has lost their jobs because companies have chosen to outsource these to countries where the wages are low.
