Ratehub is the #1 website providing mortgage rate comparisons in Canada. It is Canadian-owned and operated located in Toronto and Montreal. Additionally, it also provides instant quotes for bank accounts, credit cards, and investments to help us make a better financial decision. Lastly, it also has an insurance quoter and insurance brokerage to help us to find the best insurance rates.

It is a good idea to get an estimated cost before buying or renting a home, so we can plan accordingly. When buying a home, the major financial contribution will be the mortgage; as a result, it is very important to know and compare the rates to see if we can afford it.

This is a video made by a real estate in BC. He broke down the costs of buying a home and renting a home in 2024 in BC. According to his analysis, it seemed slightly cheaper to rent a home than buy a home on paper; however, he also suggested that in the long term, buying a house is a more viable choice.

Because of the soaring price of housing and the interest rate in recent years, either buying a home or renting a home becoming more and more unaffordable. However, housing is our essential need for living. At this point, if we want to save enough to pay the down payment for a house, we have to cut corners and sacrifice some entertainment; otherwise, sharing rent with others would be an easier option.

Wowa is a Loan Calculator in Canada. We can use this tool to estimate mortgage loan payments based on the current interest rate or we can put in the interest rate we obtain from financial institutions we have compared. It also provides a wide range of tools to help us to build our personal financial plans.

The reason I chose this website to share is that this is not only a loan calculator, but also it provides insights into Canadian housing markets. We can find the latest market data in Major Canadian provinces and cities. It is like a one-stop when we want to know what mortgage rates are, and how the housing market is, and you can even find out GIC rates, tax rates, and more from here.

It is a very thorough presentation and he uses critical thinking and different data to support his points.

I like how he presents this topic, and the angles he looks at are very considerate. He chose 9 different factors to discuss the Canadian housing market in 2025, which include the interest rate, the election, new housing rate, rental prices, mortgage renewal, new construction market, tariffs, and sales volume. This is a good video to watch whether you are looking to step into the housing market or trying to sell your home.

The speaker is Kevin Hughes, one of CMHC's Deputy Chief Economists. He gives some pictures of how the housing market will look like, and what factors we should look into in the near future.

The reason I want to share this video is that it gives buyers a general outlook on how the housing market at the current time and in the next two years. It also gives us some insight into how economic growth will shape the housing market forecast. Also, he mentions there will be pent-up demand in the foreseeable future.

Welcome to my wall. This wall provides some general information about buying and renting a house in Canada. Housing is always a hot topic across different generations. Moving out is a big milestone for us when growing up, whether to buy or rent. It represents independence and responsibility. Most importantly, it is a major investment when buying a home.

As housing prices become more and more unaffordable, we need a better plan to prepare for the future. Whether buying or renting, it will become our biggest expense each month. I will be including a mortgage calculator and rent-finding websites on this wall. Those will give us some ideas about how much our monthly payments will be, so we can have some knowledge when doing financial planning. Please keep in mind that this wall is not to convince anyone to buy or rent a home. It is just to provide information about the two.

Reflection

The most surprising fact I learned about the topic is how unaffordable the housing prices are in Toronto. According to Statistics Canada, the average salary in Ontario is estimated to be around $55,524 per person in 2025. However, the average home price sold was around $1,084.547 in February 2025, according to WOWA.ca. This data makes me concerned about how our kids will ever be able to own a home if the housing price keeps going up.

This topic is related to each of us because it is our essential need, and we all need a house to live in. For myself personally, I am planning to move to a different area this year, as a result, this is a helpful project to me since I can gain some information about the current housing market.

The most important information to pass to my friends and family would be the importance of financial planning. Without proper financial planning, it will be very challenging when it comes to renting or buying a home. Also, before having a financial plan, we have to know about the data, so we can plan accordingly.
