This always reminds me that it's not about me.  The reason I teach is not for my own benefit, but to benefit my students, their families, and people in the future.  I like to remind myself, too, that I'm just a small person in all of our world of education.  I don't have to do it all, and I don't have to do it all by myself.  I can trust others to help me and our students along the way.

There is so much more to why I do things in my career than a paycheck or to be able to say I am a teacher. I do it for my kids their families, and the community. Each action causes a ripple that impacts those around us in significant ways. We might not even see the ways that it impacts them. My successes and my losses affect all those around me. Our team leader always says 'we either sail together, or we drown together.' There is simply no other way around it. I love that there are other teachers in my same boat that struggle through the same things that I do. It reminds me to take a deep breath and avoid negative ripples. Due to light pollution, I often can't see just how many stars there are, but when I have a chance to be somewhere dark, I get this feeling of wonder. We teach it every day to our children trying to instill teamwork and friendship and respect in their minds. But like anything, it is much easier to talk about than to put into practice.
