This was passed because the federal government aimed to assimilate Native Americans into mainstream US society by encouraging them towards farming and agriculture, which meant dividing tribal lands into individual plots.

Indian Relocation Act followed in 1956 and were moved into Urban areas. Consequences included loss of sovereignty and culture. Aimed to be well-intended, but it was truly an effort to cut Native Americans out of society. Urban poverty and culture loss are how we see this in today's society. Forced assimilation from rural land into urban areas.

Many Indigenous nations in North America have legal and treaty-based claims to land and water. These rights are often ignored or minimized by governments and corporations pursuing natural resource projects. Projects frequently proceed without free, prior, and informed consent from Indigenous nations, violating international standards such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).Pipelines can leak, contaminate groundwater, and disturb ecosystems. Many Indigenous communities rely on local waterways for fishing, drinking water, and cultural practices.

Implemented in 1924, also known as the Snyder Act, it granted full US citizenship to Indian and Alaskan natives born in the United States and provided them with legal rights. Despite the Act, Native Americans did not gain voting rights in all states until the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Act specified that granting citizenship would not impair the rights of Native Americans to tribal or other property, acknowledging their unique status and rights as members of sovereign nations. Issues relating to voting access and civil rights persist today, with them having to engage in extensive advocacy and litigation to secure their voting rights and ensure equal access to the electoral process. The Indian Citizenship Act recognized the legal citizenship of Native Americans, but also highlighted the ongoing struggle for their civil rights. They are still fighting for full equality and access to their rights as citizens.
