more accessible way. Tear down paywalls but also publish versions, simple language abstracts! People w/out 
academic background should be able to understand it
More distributed process (scipy) - less centralization

2. Wokring on an algorhithm should be published in a well documented way so that it can be reused 
by other scientists. Find an open journal. Approach competetors and try to collaborate in an open way

3. Opportunities: avoid inefficiencies that come with competition. Should be available to the public bc
they fund it w/ tax money. 
Drawbacks: personal disadvantage from being exploited/ scooped. 
Make urself vulnerable - if people see code and point out mistakes it makes me v vulnerable and
expensive - take away money altogether and not just shift the burden of paying for the journals 
to the researcher

4. Learn how I can do OIS w/out being vulnerable. 
Protect ideas and (potential) intellectual property while also sharing ideas/ knowledge!
