The reason why the Baobab tree is used  in the proverb is because it is a symbol of life.  The tree behaves like a giant succulent and up to 80% of its trunk is water, a valuable resource. It lives up to 1,500 years of age. Just like each of us living our lives to the fullest taking in and absorbing as much from our experiences and learning from our mistakes.
