In the text Sources Of Light by Margaret McMullen Samantha Thomas fearlessly maintains hope throughout the text. Throughout the novel Samantha experiences hardships such as the loss of her father, not fitting in in her school environment, her first boyfriend possibly being involved in some bad things, and also the rocky relationship with her ¨step-dad¨ Perry. Although for most people this would make you lose hope, these situations proved that Samantha could maintain hope even after enduring these hardships. She fought through all the hate at school for what she wore and how her personality was and ended up falling in love with this handsome looking guy.She also managed to accept Perry even after suffering the loss of her real father. They may not have gotten along the entire time but towards the end they ended up realizing that they both believe in the same thing and want to help make this world a better place through photography. Which reminds me of a quote told by the maid Willa Mae “Don't be scared," Willa Mae said. I looked at her. "Aren't you scared?" Willa Mae looked at me and said, "Shoot. Only thing I'm afraid of is that I'm going to do something I'll regret." "Being scared is just one more thing to turn into what you want it to be," Willa Mae said. "The thing with fear is, it's like anger. You've got to change it into something else. Make it your weapon. Some can just turn it into smarts. The best of 'em can turn fear and anger into love." She looked out toward our neighborhood. "I'm not there yet.” - Margaret McMullen, Sources of Light. This quote is something Samantha follows throughout the book so that she wont ever give up. Yes she did cry a few times and did feel down but she always got over it quickly and kept pushing on no matter how things were going for her. This just proves Samantha has a strong and persevering personality and heart which in the end is going to make a difference for the good between hope and giving up.

In the text Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie fearlessly pushes through the holocaust knowing everyday could quit very well be his last day on Earth. In the story Elie is the strongest character I have ever read about add to that this actually happened and isn't just some fairy-tale story. In the story Elie faces hardships that the average person would not experience at his age such as being separated from all of your family except for your dad, being forced into a concentration camp where most people of his decent die, also being forced to do backbreaking work at such a young age, and also having to see, smell, and sometimes touch death all around you. Which is summed up in the quote ¨One day I was able to get up, after gathering all my strength. I wanted to see myself in the mirror hanging on the opposite wall. I had not seen myself since the ghetto. From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me. The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me.¨- Elie Wiesel, Night. This quote shows that he may look bad on the outside and that hes given up but on the inside hes as strong as a lion and will continue to push through. He manages to maintain hope throughout the text because of his father. He has that mentality that he can't die and leave his father all alone on Earth, and throughout the text he manages to maintain that mindset and he did indeed keep pushing through. He did this all for his father which is the only thing he has left so he cherishes, love and helps him all throughout the story. If his father had died early in the text i don't believe Elie would be alive today because whenever he got down and wanted to give up he always thought about his father, and that's how a good loving family should operate.

In the text Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet both never gave up hope when they had each other in their lives it wasn't until death perceived them that they then gave up and perished under false rumors and death. In the story Romeo and Juliet had the hardest relationship i have ever seen. They weren't allowed to be a couple because of their families being huge rivals. It was by pure luck the met after Romeo snuck into the ball. After they met they kept each other going by seeing each other as much as possible, and giving each other there all. They loved each other so much that they came up with an elaborate plan to run away and live with each other for the rest of their lives. They did not want to be alive if they could not be together so this was what they came up with. Unfortunately the plan got a little mixed up and Romio could not tell im Juliet was alive or dead. So he killed himself because he could not be with the love of his life, she then woke up and killed herself too because she could not be with the love of her life. In the end this proves that there hope was eachother and thats what kept them going until there only way of hope perished and they were no more.
