In the NPR Recording "Brain Maturity Extends Well Beyond the Teen Years" the speaker Sandra Aamodt, a neuroscientist believes that maturity in adults happen after the age of 18, and closer to the age of 25. 

"So the changes that happen between 18 and 25 are a continuation of the process that starts around puberty, and 18 year olds are about halfway through that process. Their prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed. That's the part of the brain that helps you to inhibit impulses and to plan and organize your behavior to reach a goal." (Aamodt)

I agree with the article because people of younger ages tend to be peer pressured more often than adults, this includes people from ages 7-21.

Yes, this article links to the novel Dear Martin because the novel Dear Martin because while Jus and Manny were driving they were only 17, yet they were shot at by a racist guy. This was one of the major coming of age moments for Justyce because his best friend was murdered in front of him for no reason other than the fact that the shooter disliked the loud music.

In the NPR recording "The bat mitzvah turns 100. It marks more than a coming-of-age for Jewish girls" the author Deena Prichep talks about how the Jewish coming of age ceremony, the Bat Mitzvah has only been available to girls for 100 years.

"Because the Torah was meant to be discussed," Nomi says. "I get to be part of that discussion. I get to have my own voice." (Prichep)

"These girls, at the age of 12 or 13, they step into the spotlight, and transform Jewish life," Balin says. "So that by the time the first woman is ordained as a rabbi in this country in 1972, she has girls half her age to thank for paving the way." (Prichep)

This article links to the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, because Elie Wiesel had a coming of age moment during the holocaust, while he and his father were being held in concentration camps. His coming of age was not similar to the coming of age ceremonies that Jewish children go through, however, he changed and realized how the world was during his time.

In the article "'Coming of Age Day' Proposed to Boost Traditional Ritual", Global Times writes about how China proposed a nationwide celebration for coming of age.

"Entering adulthood was regarded as one of the most important occasions in one's life in ancient China." (Global Times)

"In recent years, the Chinese people, who have gained more faith and confidence in their country, have used a number of ways to pass on, promote, and modernize traditional Chinese culture, such as celebrating coming of age . . ." (Global Times)

I agree with this Global Times article because I do believe that coming of age is very important among people ages 17-21.

• This article links to Dear Martin because Justyce faces some coming of age moments while he is in school. This is similar to the article because the article is about coming of age traditions in schools. Justyce also faces some other coming of age moments, which proves that coming of age could happen before or after the age of 18.
