Franz had narrowly escaped a different assassination attempt hours earlier, when Gavrilo Princip killed the archduke outside of a sandwich shop. </div>]]></description>

The ultimatum included demands to investigate the assassination and to condemn the propaganda against Austria-Hungary. When Serbia did not comply, Austria-Hungary declared war, in July of 1914.</div>]]></description>

U.S. citizens grew more and more upset until the U.S declared war on Germany in April. The first U.S troops arrived in France at the end of June. </div>]]></description>

It had many goals and points, but one of the biggest things to come from it was the League of Nations. This was the first intergovernmental organization created to promote World Peace. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Treaty of Versailles was presented at the peace conference to finally end World War 1, which was held in June of 1919. The treaty listed a few conditions, some of which were: Germany had to pay $33 billion to the Allies in war reparations, and they could not have an army. These conditions angered Germany and built up resentment, which made lasting peace unlikely. </div>]]></description>
