Today we got into a group to start planning our FMP. I am in a group of three, and I suggested that we could make a silent film. We decided that it would be good if we included a modern twist, to keep things interesting and make it better link to the theme of '2016'. We discussed ideas for the plot and decided that we could include time travel and that we could have someone in the 1920s find a diary entry or letter from 2016, and then decide to travel there, but we have not come up with a reason why they would want to yet. That is something that we will need to decide on fairly soon, as the plot will not really work if there is no incentive for the character to want to travel there. We have someone in our group who is very good with editing, which is good as I am not particularly confident with editing, but I would like to edit some parts of the video as this is one of the SMART targets that I have set for myself.

Today I finished my mind map and mood board for task one. I have tried to include enough annotations on my mood board so that it will be easier to refer back to during the next planning stages for the project. I have made the mood board and mind map both using Microsoft power point, as I find that this is the easiest way of arranging my work in a way that I can read it and not having to scroll down a page to read the next part. I looked at what the clothing looked like in the 1920s, and found out that someone I know has a dress that fits into the theme of the 1920s, and they have agreed to act in our video, as the person from the 1920s. This is useful as it saves us from having to find someone to play the character later on, when we will have other things to plan.
I have also started my project proposal today, I hope to be able to finish it at home later, so that I can upload it to showbie. Hopefully I will be able to pitch my idea next week, so that I can move onto task 2.

Today, we first watched a demonstration of the different technical equipment, and then had to make a series of instructional videos in groups that we were put into. I found that we all got along in our group, so there were not any problems with team members arguing about things like how to film something, instead we discussed everything in a calm manner, and this way we were able to make quick decisions and not take too long on each task. We found that with recording each video, it was sometimes difficult to find a suitable place to film, as many places were noisy, and we had to talk louder in order to be heard in the videos. We used a editing app called imovie, which I had never used before, but I found that it was fairly straightforward to use. THe only part I struggled with was knowing how to rearrange the video clips into a different order, but I learnt quickly when someone showed me how to.

I found that it helped me to consolidate my knowledge about the basic editing techniques, setting up the software and importing the videos and doing basic transitions like a cross fade, which I had been struggling with earlier. I got help with it and it turned out that it was just in a different location than I had expected. I also practiced exporting videos.

Today we made a start on the pre production paperwork for our project. We have started out by looking at locations that we can use for filming our different scenes, and doing our location recess sheets. We have found several different wood/forest locations that would be suitable for our film, and they are all mostly easy to get to. there are ones near to where we all live, so we have decided that it would be best to possibly go with the one near to Mark's house, as that is within walking distance from college, so the most appropriate for taking equipment to. the location that we are having the most trouble with is the one for the opening scene, which needs to be 20s themed. We were thinking of having a dance class or just someone dancing by them self, or having someone reading and listening to music in a living room sort of setting. Unfortunately, places that would be suitable for this aren't very easy to find around where we live, as there is not many places that still fit with the 1920s style. Dance studios that I have looked at do not have the correct sort of floor to fit in with the 1920s, as we really need a wooden floor instead of a laminate floor in order for it to look authentic.

Today we have had another meeting as a team to try and best divide up all of the other pre production paperwork that we have to do. We have decided that with the pieces where there are multiple things in the same category, e.g. personnel logs and location visit forms, we will do parts each, as we can each do our own personnel log, and it would be more convenient to be able to do location visit sheets for places that we each know well and can access easily. We were still having a bit of trouble with the situation of where to record the first scene, as there really are not many places around us that fit in with the 1920s setting. We have found out about a couple of suitable places, such as High Wych Village hall, which we have looked at the pictures and prices for, and looks sutiable.

Today we have been able to book the High Wych Memorial Hall for Sunday the 11th June, at 11:00. This was not our original plan for when to film there, but unfortunately the time that we had been planning for was not available, although the calendar on the website had not been updated to say so yet. This should be fine anyway though, as long as it will be okay for people acting. we unfortunately have had to cancel tomorrows recording with Kate, as she will now be busy on all days except for the original day we were supposed to be filming in the hall. this means that we may possibly have to rearrange our filming dates and our entire production schedule, and may need to find a replacement actor. I will be able to ask my sister to see if she will be able to do it, but she is a school pupil, so she would only be able to do weekends, which does restrict the times available to us to record.

Today we did some filming in the woods near Mark's house. We did take a while to work out exactly how we were going to travel there, as we didn't feel that walking there and back would be a good use of our time, and Kitty didn't pack money for the bus. In the end, we got a lift with Mark's dad, as he was free to be able to pick us up from college and drop us at the woods.we made sure that we knew where a bouts in the forest that we wanted to film each bit- we found a nice clearing that had a 'slanted tree', which we felt would look nice for our film, as we could get some interesting shots with it. We were able to get some pan shots and walking shots, but we did not have a tripod with us today, so we may need to retake some tomorrow. We did end up having to leave to go filming a bit behind the time that we had originally planned for today, as the SD card for the camera that we were using wasn't finished with, as someone was still importing their photos from it before we could use it. Due to this, we did not get quite as much done today as we had planned, but luckily we should have a lot longer tomorrow, and can make up for lost time and get some replacement shots. I made a type up for the Newspaper prop today, but unfortunately forgot to pick up a metro newspaper this morning on the bus, so hopefully I will remember to get one this evening, so that we can finish the prop tomorrow morning.

Today we got the rest of our filming done in the woods. We were able to finish our newspaper prop in the morning, first thing, as I luckily managed to remember to pick up a Metro newspaper on the bus this morning, and there were some left. In case of me forgetting, I did pack last weeks radio times magazine with me as a back up just in case. We did have a bit of trouble with booking equipment, as it turned out that yesterday we didn't actually properly book the things that we needed, as it want written down on the sheet. We were luckily able to get all of the things that we need for filming today, and we have booked out the things that we need for our next day of filming, so that we will not end up in the same situation again. We have made plans as to how we will go about picking the equipment up, as we are next filming on a weekend, so will need to pick the things up on the Friday before.

Today I went back to my research to add some more to it. I helped Mark with putting the plot together in the editing, as I knew which shots had to go where. The research I did was mainly based around Serial killers from 2016, as I wanted to have something more to base the murderer in our plot around. I used the internet to find information articles that gave information about them, and decided that the best story that links in with our plot was one that was set in a city, and although the killer was caught, they still believe that there is another killer out there somewhere. I feel that this would be good to base the killer around, as they can be based on the killer that they think they have not found. Ideally, I feel that I would have preferred to have finished this research before the storyboarding, but I didn't get the time to do that, due to us having to change our production schedule.

This morning I again made sure that the editing was going well, and helped with putting the plot in the correct order. We found that there was a couple of shots that we had not been sure if we had recorded or not, which we do not have: an over the shoulder shot of the actress reading the newspaper and a shot of the actress leaving the clearing. luckily, we don't really need these shots for the plot to make sense, so it isn't really going to effect the final film. It is unlikely that we will get the chance to re film them since our only other filming date is this saturday, and we are not planning on going anywhere near the woods where those scenes were set.
I feel that tomorrow, we will need to start on getting the rushes logs for the shots that we have so far, as this will make it easier to keep up with later on, when we have more shots from the filming that we will be doing on sunday.

I found this to be a very long and time consuming task, as there was lots of opening and closing video clips, and there was a lot of repetition in what I was writing for each clip. I did sometimes struggle with knowing how to word some things in the comments, so that I wasn't making it to lengthy, for example in the shots where there was a section in the clip that was okay, but not all of a movement- e.g. getting up- was shown in the clip.

Today I assisted with the editing again, with making sure that the clips were all in the right order for the plot to properly make sense. I also started on filling out the rushes logs for the dancing scene of our video. I didn't get as many of these done as I would have liked, as I am finding them to be a very long process made up of mostly just opening and closing the windows to view the video clips. I have found though that it is a bit quicker and easier on the Mac compared to the computers in the classroom, so I may try and prioritise doing rushes logs for when I am able to use a Mac.
Also today, I recorded my music for using in the video, when I got home from college. I am happy with how it turned out, the recording sounds fairly smooth, and is about the right sort of volume. I only did one take of it, I would have taken another one just to be on the safe side, but I didn't have enough time. Luckily, most of it turned out how I would have wanted to first time, except for a little slip up at the very end where the timing of one note was a bit out. I don't feel that this should be much of a problem, as the music should be fairly easy to fade out at the end in the editing.

I had some people listen to my composition and answer some questions about it, as I wanted to make sure that it was giving the same sort of mood to other people as I had intended it to. I am happy with how this survey turned out, as i got good responses fairly quickly, and people seemed to all get the right sort of mood that I had intended from the music. Some people did say that the timing wasn't quite perfect, and that the piece could have been longer, so I will take this into consideration for next time, as I do feel that a longer piece of music could have been helpful in the editing, as it would have given us more to work with.

Today we realised that we had to make some changes to the credits at the very end of the video, as they were incorrect with a couple of the job roles and some important things -for example the music and actors- were missing. We were able to make the corrections, and then re upload our final video, so that it showed the correct information in the credits. I do not know how we missed out on these things when we originally uploaded the video, I do remember going through the things that we needed in the credits, but I think that it possibly didn't get saved properly. In the future, I think it would be better if the editor had made us all watch it through before we uploaded it, so that we could see if any mistakes had been made.
