         <description><![CDATA[<p>Due to the systems we have, I think 0s are the only option to communicate a missing piece (typed or not, the math is still 0).  But I think with the re-assessment systems it is still a powerful communication piece to families that <em>something</em> needs to be done about that assignment, regardless of what the 0 means.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>As a wee scholar, I was motivated to do well, or at least I <em>think</em> it was the desire to be praised instead of the fear of failure that drove me to success. After reading this book, I realize how wrong I was. Grades aren’t a motivational factor, and we should find those motivators in other spaces to help students value their role in learning.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I always thought retakes were just free points and that kids would try to cheat it. Though if the goal is mastery anyway them retaking the test and taking the time to figure out what's on the test so they can purposely practice the stuff they don't know gets them to where they need to be in the end anyway.</p>]]></description>

My team has moved to giving 50% on summative assignments instead of 0% even when students have not submitted anything. I explained this to students as a way to help them rebound while still receiving a failing grade. Let's see how the parents react after these 1st semester grades are posted. </p>]]></description>
