1. What are some of the legal
issues that are impacting your work at this time? 
The top few issues are the ESSA, Legislative funding, and the A-F Accountability system. 

2. What are the  legal requirements or compliance issues that you regularly monitor?
I am constantly monitoring Accountability(state, federal), discrimination, special education/504, and confidentiality. 

3. Are there any policies or rules you are currently or have recently revised or changed because of legal or ethical issues?
Most recently early graduation requirements, staff training requirements, and security measures. I have spoken up about the security measures and was recently featured on the local news. 

4. Can you think of legislation or a court case that you became aware of with implications for your work? 
Since I have been a Superintendent for 3 years and now and a Principal for 5 years prior to that the most current laws is what I am most up to date on. Such as SB 7 (proper staff student relations), HB 21 (accountability), SB 1566 (School board training),and  SB 1 (budget appropriations).

5. How do you stay current on legal issues in your field?
I work in close contact with  ESC, district attorneys, Jim Walsh, David Thompson, and I am a member of TASA & TACS.

This is an issue that school districts do encounter but the medias report makes it seem that these students are taking from the educational system. In today's world teachers are having to be proactive in order to keep our students safe. This new legal issue will be felt for many years to come and over all goes hand in hand with the ethical issue of school culture and climate. Due to the Legal issue of concealed carry at school it will have an impact on culture and climate in schools. We are apart of a constant pendulum that swings back in forth in what is best practice in educating students. However one thing has not changed and that is as principals, teachers, administration, and community our goal is to provide a safe environment for our students. Today more than ever before we are challenged with protecting our students from a mass casualty with in the school walls. Texas Governor Greg Abbott states that "A single goal, and that is to ensure that we develop strategies that will prevent a replication of the shooting that took place in Santa Fe, prevent a replication of the shooting that took place in Sutherland Springs"(All Things Considered, 2018). As a school Principal this would mean it would be my job to protect my students. What legal or ethical issues are mentioned related to this topic?
