We are shown how this company is able to make their own workforce out of making their own social classes that will do what they are assigned to so that they can work on making their systems more and more efficient. We see the process in which they go through to mass produce people and how they alter each so that they come out with a specific result such as when they put some of the embryos into alcohol so that they are altered enough that they won't be able to function enough to resist the system, but also function enough so that they can help the system move along. " Two, four, eight, the buds in their turn budded; and having budded were dosed almost to death with alcohol; consequently burgeoned again and having budded--- bud out of bud out of bud--- were there after---further arrest being generally fatal--- left to develop in peace"(pg.6)

In this chapter we see how they condition the babies so that they fear certain things, so that later on in life they stay away from those objects or things that associate with certain objects. Using this technique they are able to control the different societal classes in this chapter we can see how they make some classes afraid of nature and in turn the country. The usefulness of this fear is so that the workers that they have in factories won't go off into the country using more time away from their jobs, and instead they make them afraid of nature but like sports that are done in nature, so that they can benefit off of the products that they would need for those activities. " " We condition the masses to hate the country," concluded the Director. "But simultaneously we condition them to love all country sports. At the same time, we see to it that all country sports shall entail the use of elaborate apparatus." (pg.23)

Forgive me if this is half-arsed

Yada yada yada more things that are inhumane and terrible stuff stuff stuff. We go more into how they deal with alpha, beta, delta, and the rest of them. To be exact how they keep them in the mindset they want to and control them. One is with the 'important kids' they play audio in their sleep to make sure they know not to associate with delta's and the other low kids. While actively CHOOSING WHAT THESE KIDS SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT LIKE. To maximize benefit and lower risk. I don't need to explain how this fits into my topic.

Another funny thing to mention is the topic of how people used to reproduce came up and everyone almost had a meltdown with the 'birds and bees' talk. Couldn't really find anything that perfectly fits under my topic so i'll just talk about the strange things.

How the hell did these guys think that letting kids 'Play Smex' a good idea? They were out here running about showing off their you know what's like it was nothing to be concerned with. Then they go onto a long talk about how they can't believe a few hundred years ago such a thing was very hush hush and wasn't talked about with many. Like-the hell? All that aside the thing I don't get is how they're so okay with this but LITERALLY IN THE LAST CHAPTER, they almost has a meltdown with the birds and bees talk. The math ain't mathing here and I'm going to get to the bottom of it...

"Strange" pg 30

...

What? That's it, it fits the theme for this chapter...ehehehe...okay but just in case you want an actual quote here.
"Outside, in the garden, it was playtime. They do this by making them touch and look at these objects but then get mildly shocked. The purpose of this is so the babies can reject desirable things. World state citizens are conditioned to desire things that advance the interests of the state, not their own. We see how they have taken down historical monuments and museums, along with all books. The public doesn't get to have an opinion on the past because the government tells them what to think based off of what they are allowed to be told and what they are allowed to see. Because they don't have these different monuments and structures in their world they don't have to look at their surroundings and find the beauty in their world and instead has to believe what they are told. He getting embarressed because she's very loud and open about it and wanting to date him. They walk and enter an elevator, go to the roof and some talk about a golf course being here might be a good idea. Then we get Bernard talking with another alpha and get some insight on how stuck up the alpha's and beta's are. What I mean by that is how privileged they are and how little they care how good they have it, the worries around them, and the treatment of the other classes. There is no real dystopia signs here that I can include other than maybe how many people these guys sleep with. It's very concerning.

Towards the end of this part of the chapter we see how the technology is so universal that people casually hop into their helicopters to leave. When Lenina and Henry Foster are leaving they see what is called the Red Rocket as they fly by and acknowledge that it came in from New York and how late it was. We also see how impactful the control that they have on the public is because of a moment where Bernard comments on how the sky is looking amazing, but Lenina goes straight to talking about how the sky looks good for obstacle golf. "There's the Red Rocket," said Henry, "just come in from New York." Looking as his watch. "Seven minutes behind time," he added, and shook his head. (Pg.61)

We also see another example of how people have issues with people that are in anyway different from one another in their groups. We hear how Helmholtz is being inspected and criticized by his higher ups because he is too intelligent and is doing better than the rest in his area of expertise. "Able," was the verdict of his superiors. "Perhaps," (and they would shake their heads, would significantly lower their voices) "a little too able." (Pg. 67)

The man is rejecting the norm out of his free will. Refusing to be around woman who are clearly interested and after him. Not only that but he's cutting himself off from many other's for slightly similar reasons. And Bernard is with him all the way with this. Now we get into how dangerous of a situation they're in and why it relates to my topic. They're not only actively rejecting the norm but also discussing it and coming up with ideas against it. That sort of stuff is highly illegal. Yes, you heard me correctly. Simply discussing the problems of their society is illegal and could get them punished. Hence why they end up doing so in secret at Bernard is on edge as they do so. Wrongly hearing someone eaves dropping when he was just being a worry wort. All that said don't think a perfect society would be against such a debate. Hell even with the many problems america has allowing yourself to speak your mind is completely free.

"I'm sorry," Said Bernard, feeling and looking uncomfortably foolish. There is a section in this part of the chapter that we see Lenina having a flashback about her as a little girl waking up hearing the conditioning boxes that teach them certain phrases to say and memorize. Bernard is one of the people who needs be there and take part of this. And so that's what they do and that's literally the summed up uncomfortable chapter. We listen to a discussion between the Director and Bernard where a permit to the New Mexico reservation sets something off in the Director's mind that makes him relive and talk about events that had happened over twenty years ago, and from this we see how there are some things that can get through the conditioning. Also pills, not perfect society relates to my topic.

Part two is more well its much better then the last one. It also furthers my hate for that one chick Bernard was with.

Bernard talks to the Director in order to obtain permission to visit the savage reservation. The Director launches into an out of character personal story where he describes a similar experience when he was younger, a rendezvous with a Beta woman where she suddenly went missing. After extending all the resources possible and still unable to find her, he expressed a hidden sense of somberness that he immediately dismisses because it would reinforce the idea that he could've had feelings for her, which is unspeakable in the New World.
"Because, after all, it's the sort of accident that might have happened to any one; and, of course, the social body persists although the component cells may change." - pg 97

The savage registration. I'd like to start off by saying that the sole fact that they keep people in basically zoos is already terrible. Therefore I don't need to explain how this related to a dystopia. Our wonderful Bern and son of a *insert word here* what's-her-ugly-face cause i don't know here unimportant name head to the savage registration. Recall this was the whole reason what-her-ugly-face agreed to go with our lovely Bern in the first place. That and it appears Bern is getting sent to iceland. If im remembering correctly I guess blackmailing his boss didn't have the effect he wanted it to. End of the chapter they just leave. With a horrific thing said to us. They gas the people in the savage registration to make sure these people don't try anything fishy. SOUNDS A LOT LIKE A CERTAIN WAR THAT HAPPENED A LONG TIME AGO WHO ALSO USED SUCH GAS! This basically confirms my claim that this relates to my topic. Oh also there's an electric fence around them that'll insta kill em if they try to escape.

"They've got experience with gas bombs to know they mustn't play any tricks." -pg 106 also note THEY'RE LAUGHING as they say this.

In this chapter while in the reservation we find the woman that the director had lost a long time ago and see that she has a child. We see that the conditioning has held pretty strong in Linda, but not so much in her son John. We also see how Lenina learns that people get older than they do back home and that is because of the technology of keeping them young. We see the issues that especially Lenina has with seeing how the people in the reservation live because she had lost her soma bottle. "because most of them die long before they reach this old creature's age. Youth almost unimpaired till sixty, and then crack! the end." (Pg. 111)

Holy hell what a reveal. So recall that in the past few chapters we discovered that Bern is getting exiled. Or his boss is trying to exile him because he hates him. To iceland by the way. If you also recall that the Boss fumbled BIG time. Telling Bern a secret which he would use against him in order to try not to be exiled. This secret you're wondering? Its how he left his date for dead and didn't look back. With that little refresher out of the way we jump back to present day and Bern trying to use his information to his advantage was a bust because he hears he's being exiled. But wait, here's where this chapter comes in. That lady that his boss left for dead is *alive* and not only but has a kid. This changes everything because Bern now has proof. This proof of which going against everything this 'perfect' society values. Now to tell you how this relates to my topic. They exile people. Must I say more?

"Linda" -pg 118 I couldn't really find anything else that fit so i just put the womans name here.

This chapter we see John talk about his experiences in the reservation, he talks about the way that the conditioning that Linda had gone through made it difficult for the both of them to survive and thrive among the rest of the people. We get to see that Linda doesn't actually know the process in which she was a part of back home when trying to to explain certain things to John she can't find any explanation to give. John is able to find his own way of controlling the way he feels and the way he sees the way he is treated by finding reason in reading and doing some ceremonies on his own time since the rest won't let him join in. "What are chemicals?" he would ask. "Oh, stuff like magnesium salts, and alcohol for keeping the Deltas and Epsilons small and backward, and calcium carbonate for bones, and all that sort of thing." "But how do you make chemicals, Linda? Where do they come from?" "Well I don't know. You get them out of bottles." (Pg. 130)

He finds himself looking through some of Lenina's things such as slippers and perfumes that he has never seen before. In the beginning of this chapter we see how Bernard is deciding to get his plan formed, by going straight to Mustapha Mond for a permit to take the two from the reservation and get control over the Director by using the knowledge of Linda and Johns existence. "at ten thirty-nine he was speaking to his fordship's fourth personal secretary; at ten forty-four he was repeating his story to the first secretary, and at ten forty-seven and a half it was the deep, resonant voice of Mustapha Mond himself that sounded in his ears." The only reason he comes up with this plan is so he doesn't get sent to Iceland. Meanwhile John visits their house thinking Bernard and Lenina have left without him. He cries for about an hour but then decides to check the window. He sees Lenina suit case so he grabs a rock to a throw at the window. After breaking the window he climbs in and starts messing with Lenina stuff inside the suit case. After messing with her stuff he checks the other room and watches Lenina sleeping. Linda has a kid, she's a terrible mother very abusive alcholic all that bad stuff. Too ashamed to go to one of the guards to get out of the savage registration because she has said kid. Anyway she keeps living like the its the 'perfect world' and sleeps with a ton of dudes. Karma strikes back and the woman of said men jump her and beat her up. Now there was a more detailed explanation after this for my thoughts but I ain't doing that because padlet didn't send my thing so I'll make it brief. While this doesn't excuse Linda's behavior my hatred lies within the terrible system that they live with. Every problem with this place is is traced back to the system. When the Director asks Bernard if he has anything to say about the accusations he brings in Linda as she explains the situation and how they know each other we see how that control the Director once thought he had started to slip as the workers stared on and laughed at the situation. As the Director becomes embarrassed Linda brings in John which makes the whole situation worse with John calling him "Father". Turning towards the door, "John!" she called. "John!" He came in at once, paused for a moment just inside the door, looked round, then soft on his moccasined feet strode quickly across the room, fell on his knees in front Director, and said in a clear voice: "My father!".

As Bernard's victory against the Director has gotten out to many people it got to his head and became what he used to despise in people, which was people having so much power and control. He even at one point gloats about how many women he has been with in the last week, this contradicts the way he felt before where he would think to himself that the way that Lenina was with a lot of guys was disgusting and disrespectful to herself. In the time that John and Linda have been in civilization Linda has been continuously drugging herself with soma to escape from the judgeful eyes around. John had been taken around everywhere to see the different technology they have and as Bernard says in the letters that he had sent Mustapha Mond that John wasn't very interested in what they had to show him. "After the scene in the Fertilizing Room, all uppercaste London was wild to see this delicious creature who had fallen on his knees before the Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning-- or rather the ex-Director, for the poor man had resigned immediately afterwards and never set foot inside the Centre again".

This chapter shows how even with the heavy conditioning that everyone has there is still the possibility for unhappiness in everyone including someone in the highest authority such as Mustapha Mond. As we see Bernard holding a party where there is a lot of influential people there, but the situation turns wrong when John argues with Bernard about leaving his room and come out to see everyone at the party. We see how Lenina continues to stay in her sadness with the rejection from John from the last chapter and starts getting in her head more and more about how the reason John doesn't want to leave his room is because of her. This is probably the biggest sign that as much as the world is made to be a happy place there is nothing that can stop people from getting themselves hurt in some ways and it shows that Lenina is having real feeling for John and not the surface level feeling that they are all taught to feel. Lenina suddenly felt all the sensations normally experienced at the beginning of a Violent Passion Surrogate treatment-- a sense of dreadful emptiness, a breathless apprehension, a nausea. Her heart seemed to stop beating. (Pg. 174)

Summed up the Director thinks he has the upper hand with Bern as he ounces to a few other council or whatever people of Bern's 'crimes' or failures or whatever and how he'll be exiled to iceland. Which I will say again, for a 'perfect society' YOU SHOULDN'T EXILE PEOPLE. But here's the twist. Bern is prepared. He reveals to everyone about the director's crimes about the person he left for dead and his child. Which really only worsens with John keeps calling him 'Father' every 5 seconds. And yeah...the Director just got served.

"Father!" -pg 151

And now we have the aftermath of this glorious big brain play by Bern and it's rather sad to be honest. For starters Bern has let this victory get to his head. And I mean really get to his head to the point where I'm going to call him anti-Bern now. Now we get to the even sadder topic of the matter. The victims of all this Linda and John. Remember how her whole reason for staying in the savage registration was because she didn't want to feel ashamed for having a child. And now sure the director might be screwed but so is Linda. As she is overdosing on soma to hid away from everyone's judgmental looks. John's just getting a VIP tour of the place and he's fascinated by it. So nothing bad about about that. For now at least

Eventually when the police come in to stop the situation from getting any worse, they use some soma vapors and conditioning music boxes to calm the people down. We end up seeing how they can control the people so bad that they make sure that some of the classes can't understand the idea that they are imprisoned by the world and the drugs they are given. "Three men with spraying machines buckled to their shoulders pumped thick clouds of soma vapor into the air. Two more were busy round the portable Synthetic Music Box. Carrying water pistols charged with a powerful anesthetic, four others had pushed their way into the crowd and were methodically laying out, squirt by squirt, the more ferocious of the fighters." As he sits there with her children are brought in for their death conditioning and as they come in we see how they treat Linda who is in pain and is dying and how their conditioning makes it so they are desensitized from ever feeling something such as grief. As Linda stirs awake John hears her call out for Pope, this angers John into squeezing her hand tighter. Linda starts to have problems breathing and as John goes to find a nurse to help Linda, she is dead by the time that they get back. This experience fuels John's hatred for this civilized world in which has now killed his mother. "Linda astonished and rather alarmed the. Mustapha Mond in this chapter tells John, Bernard, and Helmholtz about why it is they are there and what will be happening to them as a punishment. He shows us how they would rather keep truth and beauty to keep the sense of happiness for the world, blissfully not knowing what else there is to find in the world of knowledge. We also have a point where Mustapha Mond tells the group how he used to be how they were and he gave it up to be controlled by his wants to control. "I was given the choice; to be sent to an island, where I could have to on with my pure science, or to be taken on to the Controllers' Council with the prospect of succeeding in due course to an actual Controllership. As much as John wants to be sent to the islands as well Mustapha Mond takes that choice away from John and says that he must stay in civilization for further observation for the experiments. In John's anger he decides when he gets back that he will take back control for himself and exile himself to somewhere he can be alone and cleanse himself of civilization. As he is able to cleanse himself and enjoy doing tasks that take time and patience it is soon taken away once people find him and call in reporters. We see how John's sense of control is taken away from him time and time again. After those weeks of idleness in London, with nothing to do, whenever he wanted anything, but to press a switch or turn a handle, it was pure delight to be doing something that demanded skill and patience (Pg. 247).

Okay I take back what I said about this book being boring. These last two chapters really start picking things up real fast and now im invested. Okay enough talk to the summary. John starts a riot is literally the entire chapter. But it doesn't work because the group he's trying to help riot with him doesn't understand what 'freedom' is and they simply don't do anything. Hemlholtz was there too I think and actively helped. Bern is being a little rat and hiding away. Which further proves how bad this society is. That these people who John is trying to help can't even comprehend anything he's trying to do and end up not taking this chance to break free. Now I'm going to do something I don't usually do and praise this...society they live in. For the way that they handle this. Instead of using bullets and shooting when things get out of hand like our government. They opt out and use nullifying gas that makes the rioters, just John and Helhotz, losing feeling of their body and harmlessly dealt with. Which is one of the most brilliant ways to deal with a riot without hurting or killing anyone. THATS THE ONLY PEACE OF PRAISE THEY'RE GETTING FROM ME.

Note: Think some of people did riot but just didn't get too far with it cause lack of reason and such now that I'm reading back looking for a quote

"Will you come quietly?"
