The New Testament recounts the events surrounding Jesus' life and the founding of Christianity, particularly Paul's initiatives to disseminate Jesus' message. It consists of 27 volumes, all of which were first written in Greek.

The Gospels, which make up the New Testament's portions about Jesus, were written roughly 40 years after the Epistles, the earliest written works by Christians.

Around 50 A.D., possibly right before Paul's death, churches began to spread Paul's letters. The letters were duplicated and circulated by scribes.
