rule #9: thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you are writing or the system you are designing.
because of today's prevalence of social media and the connectivity it gives the entire world with each other, it is easily seen how what one puts on the internet can negatively affect someone else (or even themselves in the future).
many times, you see people who have posted a status, tweeted, or "liked" something that was derogatory in nature, politically incorrect, or not socially acceptable in today's society - and they get reprimanded for it.
people, and college students, need to be more aware of what they share on the internet for the sake of others' (as well as their own) futures.

it is easy to mindlessly post something and not think of consequences, especially since today's technology allows you to share almost everything with, well... anyone.
additionally, the political and social climates are always rapidly changing in their standards and norms. something that might have been accepted in 2005 may not be accepted now in any way.
this goes for famous movies, tv shows, and acceptable social media content.

i think a little understanding from both ends will go a long way.
there needs to be an understanding that whatever was popular, considered "funny", or accepted at one point in time was considered so for a reason - societal norms and standards were different. comedy toes a fine line in this regard, explaining why so many comedians are scrutinized for past jokes or skits that are now thought to be offensive or inappropriate.
on the other hand, there also should be a level of awareness for the growing social movement towards gender equality, sexual orientation representation, and other controversial subjects. some of the strong opinions that exist now may change in the future; acting upon them in a violent, rude, or offensive manner shouldn't be acceptable in any sense.
