A moodboard uses images to give a feel and appearance of something rather than what you think it will be about.
E.g. you couldn't explain the basic story through images on a moodboard.

A mind map has a more general use, being useful for note taking, and any general piece of work that is asking you a question. They are much better for showing your thoughts as a pose to existing images.
