I think the shading on the tree looked really good but it took a tremendous amount of time to do, which I severely underestimated. Therefore as I went on I began to lose a lot of time on the shading of the vines. I also really didn't like how the deer and the bird were turning out and really want to erase them and redo them but knew that I would not have enough time. So, it was really hard for me to accept them and work with what I had. I really wanted to have both a realistic and an unrealistic aspect to this piece. My insperation was the goddess Aphrodite. Aphrodite can look like a normal human being, which is where the realistic aspect comes in play, but she has all of this hidden power. Her favorite animal to specifically turn into was a dove, but I thought any type of bird would sefice, which is where my unrealistic aspect came into play. I was trying to emphasize the diffrence of the unreal and real aspects by adding color to one and keeping one colorless. When I first started this art class I had never really worked with colored pencil,  when I saw how blendable and fun they are to work with I started to test them out. When it came to incorporating it into my drawings I was nervous so I started by putting a very small amount in my theme project and I thought it turned out well so, I decided to take a risk and draw my hole portrait in colored pencil. It is not my best medium but I have improved immensely in it and I think it is very fun to use. One artistic struggle I have learned from is to really exaggerate my darks and lights. In my first few graphite drawings there is a lot a greys and not a lot of blacks and whites to provide contrast. However, as the semester proceeded I started to try and exaggerate my darks and lights, there is not a huge difference but they definitely looks better than my earlier pictures. Also, I struggled drawing the highlights in hair to make it look more realistic but then you (Mrs. Stevenson) taught me a different method that made a hugeeeee difference. I really love art and would love to do it as a profession but, I think I am just going to continue to do it more for enjoyment than anything else. In the future I would definitely like to try some new mediums like oil pastel and watercolor.
