The song says, "The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad If we got each other." That is exactly what Linda's mindset is like. She knows that the world's not gonna go by effortlessly, but she wants to help Gale "When the world's not kind". Linda tries to help Gale throughout the entire scene of "Interior--The living room--Full shot". It's as if she is really telling Gale that "You should know I'll be there for you". She assumes that if they "have each other then we'll both be fine". Gale, on the other hand, doesn't want Linda's help. He makes her disheartened and depressed; She decides to leave because of this.
