The main character name is Anne Marie. Anne Marie shows persistence because her friend Ellen was taken away to a camp by the Nazi because she was Jewish in chapter 1. Anne Marie found persistence when she had to wait to find ideas to get Ellen out and it worked so Anne Marie and Ellen pretended they were siblings eve though they had many differences. Anne Marie had found her bravery through out the book because when they were running they ran into a Nazi solider.They made fun of the one Nazi solider that they called "Giraffe because of his long neck" Anne Marie had the bravery to not give any information about Ellen away in chapter 1. Also, she had found bravery when she needed to help the Jewish and to save her friend from the German Nazi.Anne Marie's Mother had helped with the Jewish by faking a funeral for Peter in Chapter 11. She stopped the Nazi by looking in at the clothes by saying that he dyed from a contagious disease and it kills. Anne Marie had a difference through out the book finding her Persistence and finding her bravery from something making that trait make a difference. Finally on page 209 foster got a letter from Jimmy and it stated "I'm sorry your brother is missing, and no matter what you say I'm sorry that it's because of the Japanese." That is a very deep letter. Ex #1: In chapter 10 (and though out the book), Foster receives and messages his brother Mel all on his own. This shows that he can message his brother without the influence of his parents.

Ex #2: Starting in chapter 12 Foster had went to Mr. Greens house to read, talk, play chess, while sometimes taking care of Rick (his brother). This shows he can go were ever without the influence of an adult.

Ex #3: ever sense chapter 17 Foster's mom had volunteered for a portion of the week and Foster had to take care of himself and his brother Rick while she is gone. This shows he can take care of himself and his brother all by himself.

BONUS: At the beginning of the story Foster had mostly relayed on his parents but once the war had started and their was many changes he became more independent but sadly he also became depressed and scared.

The evidence is that on page 5 it said "When they were almost home, Ellen whispered suddenly, "I was so scared." "Me too," Annemarie whispered back. That meant she was scared that she ran into the soldiers. More evidence that shows that she is scared is that on page 38 it said "" Don't be frightened," he said to them softly." That meant that the dad was trying to make sure that Annemarie would not be scared. That last piece of evidence is on page 83 it said "She heard-as if in a recurring nightmare-the pounding on the door, and then the heavy, frighteningly familiar staccato of boots on the kitchen floor. 2. with all of her paper cranes that she is making, she is making a positive wish to get better. 
3. the cranes to her are considered lucky and will make her better. she thinks that if she make 1,000 paper cranes, she will get positively better.
