Dubliners: A Book by James Joyce

the story you are about to read, is found in a book entitled Dubliners. According to Joyce, the stories in Dubliners portray Dublin’s “childhood, adolescence, maturity, and public life.” They are precisely crafted sto- ries that depict the moral struggle of life in a commu- nity, with Dublin acting as a microcosm of society.

Joyce had looked forward to enormous sales, but the book sold only 379 copies the first year. The stories were given a positive review by writer Ezra Pound, however, and Pound’s friendship and support greatly boosted Joyce’s reputation.
