Are you familiar with "phrasal verbs", "collocations" and "idioms". In case you are not, what do you think they are about? If you know them, how could you describe them with your own words?

In my case, I'm not familiar with phrasal verbs and collocations, but I think that they are totally related to reading. We need to know the meaning of what we are reading, and if im not wrong phrasal verbs can change all the meaning of a word. So, it can be complex and can be difficult for our comprehension of the text.
On the other hand, scanning is when we visualize the text in a fast way, and skimming has to do with knowing what is the text about without read some words.

I'm not familiar with phrasal verbs, collocations and idioms. I think phrasal verbs are the verbs that are compound with 2 words and the word "up". probably they are related to reading comprehension because they are more complex words to understand. I've heard skimming and scanning, but now I don't remember what they mean.
Oriana Leiva

Personally I don’t relate with idioms and phrasal verbs, and I need to reinforce that because I know that is so useful to understand common and casual texts. There’re a lot of idioms that if we translate with the literal meaning they have no sense, and we get lost in the reading, we may understand the context, but one idiom can change the total sense of the text. That’s the reason why they are crucial. The same happens with the phrasal verbs. If we don’t know a phrasal verb, we could interpret something totally different. For example the phrasal verb “give away”, which in translation can be interpreted like a gift, in literal translation is like “drop away”. The meaning is completely different if we try to infer the phrasal verb.

Skimming for me is like look with a general view the main aspects of the reading, meanwhile “scanning” is look for specific information that is asked.

I am not familiar with phrasal verbs or collocations, but I think I've heard about them. As Sonia said, I think that those word have to do with reading comprehension and how we read a text or how we can understand a text. Skimming and scanning, I definitely did not about these words.

I'm not familiar with phrasal verbs at all, I think i've heard the words before but i don't know what they are. I think they could give us some information about what we are going to read. About skimming and scanning, i know what they are, in skimming you just search for the main points of a text, not the details. Scanning is the opposite, you search for the details of something in specific when you read the text.
