Every day that we are in Health when the students come in they sit down and begin a journal writing. I post a different quote each day so that it focuses them on the topic that we are about to discuss but I also tell the students that they can free write if they need to get something off their chest. It's a great way to have them slow down for a few mins in the beginning on class and reflect and it also shows me their prior knowledge on the topic of the day.

I use projects as a way for them to show off their creative thinking side. I also, have reflection questions at the end. I have done where they journal as well. I have given them an article about a topic and give them a question to answer.
