<title>“We shouldn&#39;t forget that the online space, whether within Canvas or outside, is just one context in which we operate. Believe it or not, much of what we do every day is not on the interwebs. So, teachers investing in authentic learning should also consider when performance in face-to-face / physical environments best matches real-world scenarios.”</title>

<title>To be authentic, &quot;education would seamlessly link students&#39; learning experiences &quot;in the classroom&quot; with their future work and learning &quot;in the real-world.&quot; (Canvas Blog) It is only then that learning becomes relevant and authentic to students.</title>

<title>In an authentic learning model the emphasis is mainly on the quality of process and innovation. It&#39;s about allowing students to pursue individual learning opportunities that are unique to their interests, through real life processes. The emphasis isn&#39;t just about regurgitating content for a unit test, it&#39;s about developing a set of culminating skills sets, within a realistic timeline, using self-motivated inquiry methods to create a useful product to be shared with a specific audience. It&#39;s about engaging in activities that students care about and can be immersed in a meaningful, shared experience. </title>

<title>&quot; The real-world is a complex, chaotic, contradictory, and confusing place, and education prepares students to enter that world gradually. Authentic learning doesn&#39;t mean you have to just throw students into the deep end.&quot; Lessons should still have purpose and be controlled--focus is on learning--not technology.</title>
