The Upanishads the ancient text that describe the search for a universal spirit. It says that every living being's soul wants to come back to Brahman.

Reincarnation is trying to reach Brahman by passing through many lives. The role it plays in Hinduism is that it influences how the Hindus lived. They even treat animals differently because they think that all life is sacred.

Karma is the consequences of how someone lives. If the Hindus do their duties on earth and live a good life, they will have good karma bringing them closer to Brahman in their next life
